I have no reason to believe the facts reported in this book are in error. In fact, I've already learned a lot of interesting things I hadn't known. It's the conclusions which cause me to give this text a 2 Star rating. In my opinion the authors were able to blame everything which went wrong in the Civil War and the aftermath on the Radical Republicans ONLY by ignoring every event which detracted from their thesis. By keeping the focus on only the events which did enhance their theory, they present the case that if Lincoln had lived, all would have been well. A glance at the index in the rear will show that vast areas of the Civil War were not mentioned at all.
If you must read this book, keep to the verifiable facts, and handle everything else with a ten foot pole.
