I am an avid reader on most things relating to Abraham Lincoln and it was with this desire that I chose to read this book. While the narrative is from a young girls' perspective and supports what we already know about the great man-his kindliness, patience and empathy, the book leaves one somewhat unsatisfied. Maybe, we over anticipated the book.

A fascinating read taken from a young girl's diary who had Carte' Blanche access to the Lincoln family during a very intense time of our country's history. Unfortunately the book ended short, leaving the reader "hanging" . Obviously we all know how the presidency ends but just when you're really getting in to the story it ends abruptly. I was disappointed with the ending.

Fascinating read taken from the.

This was a great and quick read. I love Lincoln and the era so it immediately grabbed me. Thi sis a story that I hadn't heard of before so that made it more intereseting, I think anyone who likes history even a little will enjoy this book. It's a simple story of the family and children that lived near the White House and how they interacted with Lincoln and his family- through it all.

I got the book to learn more about Lincoln as a human being. Book offered more about Lincoln's personal attributes. But, I thought the book lacked depth.

I was hoping to really get an insight into Lincoln's personal life in the White House. Nope. There are about 5 accounts based on the girl's stories. The rest is just straight history that you learned in high school. Not worth your time or money.

A great story from the eyes of young girl that grew to love the Lincoln's in a brief and troubling time of our country. The one thing that kept this from being a 5 star is that it left me wanting more. Until I read this book I never really thought about what the threat of and reality of war would mean to children and how these children were Lincoln's escape from the world that at times must have seemed impossible to bear.

I enjoyed this single. It gives some insight into Lincoln's interaction with his youngest sons and his family life in the White House.

Taken from her diary written during visits she and her brothers had with the Lincoln family during
Early stages of the Civil War. Julie, a favorite of Lincoln, shares their childhood adventures and her close relationship and memories of the first family during this crucial time and the sorrow of Willy's death.

I think this book was wonderful...better than I expected and I've always marveled at the good man and leader President Lincoln was. I read it to my husband as we were traveling...hoping to get Bill O'Reilly's book Killing Lincoln...I think that is the title. It's remarkable and quite a compliment to President Lincoln for his tenderness toward children in general and his family. Would like to have met him. Thank you.
