Just plug it into a grounded AC wall outlet and connect the appliance or device. Then control the device with your Z-Wave controller. Control Your Appliance via Z-Wave Network
The GoControl Plug-In Small Appliance Module (Z-Wave) provides Z-Wave network control to a connected device or small appliance. Simply plug the module into a grounded AC wall outlet and then plug the device or appliance into the module. Once the module is added to your Z-Wave network, you can turn the appliance off or on remotely with your Z-Wave controller.
The module has two outlets: one is powered at all times, while the other is controlled remotely through your network. This 120-volt AC module offers a resistive maximum load of 15 amps or 1,800 watts of power, or 600 watts incandescent, for a motor up to 1/2 horsepower.
Module Supports 40 kbps Data Transmission
The Small Appliance Module can offer networking support for systems that stream metadata, such as song title, artist, and album information for streaming audio to displays around your home.
Works as a Repeater for Your Z-Wave Network
For the Small Appliance Module to work with your network, it must be within approximately 130 feet (via line of sight) from your Z-Wave Controller or the closest Z-Wave Repeater device. However, this module also works as a repeater, extending your network an additional 130 feet via line of sight to reach other elements of your Z-Wave network that would otherwise be out of range of the hub or controller.
Compatible with All Other Z-Wave-Certified Products
Like all Z-Wave-certified products, the GoControl Plug-In Small Appliance Module (Z-Wave) is compatible with other Z-Wave devices, including those made by other manufacturers. The GoControl family of Z-Wave products also includes switches, dimmers, outlets, thermostats, light bulbs and lighting retrofit kits and plug-in modules as well as security devices, including alert sounders, passive infrared motion detectors, and door/window sensors.
About Z-Wave Technology
Z-Wave smart chips enable two-way RF communication among hundreds of Z-Wave-enabled devices using the Z-Wave international wireless standard. Thanks to the cross-manufacturer compatibility of Z-Wave products, it is simple to set up systems that include security, energy management, home entertainment, and appliances. Z-Wave products operate at the standard 908.42 MHz frequency and support network-wide inclusion. They are security system compatible.

With the Linear PS15Z-1 Z-Wave Plug-In Appliance-Switch you get wireless and remote control for your plug-in small appliances in addition to anything permanently-installed that is controlled by Z-Wave switches or dimmers. This means that coffee makers, fans, audio equipment or anything else in your rooms can also be included as part of your Z-Wave 'scene'. The PS15Z allows wireless Z-Wave remote ON/OFF control of the plugged in items using a remote, wall controller, or smart phone or tablet. The plug-in appliance switch features a unique Autosense feature, which is great when you go to turn on or off a connected appliance using the item's switch instead of your Z-Wave controller. Autosense automatically understands that you want to turn the device "on" or "off", when you click the item's switch and responds to your command, without you having to stop and go to the Z-Wave controller. Also, the PS15Z features an 'always-on' pass-through plug receptacle that is not controlled by Z-Wave, so that you can still have two items plugged into the outlet - one controlled by Z-Wave and one not controlled. The PS15Z is compatible with motors up to 1/2 HP, heating or cooling devices up to 15 amps/1,800 watts and incandescent, fluorescent, compact fluorescent, halogen and LED plug-in lights, whose capacity is 600 watts or less. Liner's PS15Z plug-in switch can be included in a programmed lighting 'scene', such that multiple Z-Wave-connected lights or electrical items can be turned on or off with a single click of your controller or remote device. Z-Wave controllers - I. e. hubs/gateways/remotes are sold separately. Maximum Load: Resistive: 15 amps (1800 watts) maximum, 120 Vasomotor: 1/2 H. P. maximum, 120 VAC Incandescent: 600W maximum, 120 VAC Signal (Frequency): 908. 42 MHz Range: Up to 100 feet between the wireless controller and/or the closest Z-Wave device Z-Wave Version 4. 55 Network Inclusion Scene: Command Class Security Compatible.

If I had one complaint is that only one of the two plugs on the unit is z wave controllable. The other plug is just a standard plug.
I like it and I will be adding more of these in the future.
Overall, a great buy. I only gave this 4 stars because the instructions should be correct.
But did they have to make this unit so large?
Would I buy it again?
Was quick to synch to my DSC NEO but the provided instructions are substandard. But then again, DSC NEO's are virtually an encyclopedia and doesn't list Z-WAVE option even though existent, I had to ask my alarm system support company how to program all my Z-wave devices.
If Z-wave is supposed to be so adaptable, why are detailed instructions non-existent?
But I have the coolest voice-controlled fishtank light you've ever seen now!
Paired and works fine with Micasa Verde's Vera Lite over Z-Wave.
It self-identifies as a "NuTone" brand device, "Model NPS15Z", so it's probably a relabeled version of hte same.
Cheaper than the GE/Jasco unit and appears to be about the same. The button is easier to press than the black "outdoor" units.
