Product Description
You can hide audio/video equipment behind cabinets or walls without sacrificing remote control by using the Hot Link Pro IR Remote Extender, 6 Emitters. This complete kit boosts IR remote control signals for up to six A/V components, allowing you set up an out-of-sight home theater or audio system that conveniently performs on command. It's the perfect solution for controlling hidden DVD players, DVRs, CD players and more! How It Works: The Hot Link Pro system extends the range of your remote controls' IR signals by enhancing IR sensitivity for the receiving devices. The small, slim IR receiver eye mounts near your A/V components inside the cabinet, along with the included repeater box and IR emitters. With four times the sensitivity of standard IR receivers, this long brass tube senses even the weakest IR remote control signals, and then routes them to the repeater. The repeater transmits the signal through the appropriate connected IR emitter, which then transmits a new IR signal to the A/V device. The IR receiver eye is designed for flexible mounting out of sight. Because the eye is so sensitive, it only needs to be in the same room as the remote control. Its 3-foot cord also allows mounting away from the repeater box. Place it wherever is most convenient - on the back of flat panel displays, behind door slots, speaker grills, cabinets or wallplates, or under toe kicks or subwoofers. FEATURES: Extends IR signal range up to 70 feet in daylight. Repeats carrier frequencies 18 to 120Khz. Blue LED confirms receipt of IR commands. CONTENTS: Hot Link Pro Repeater Box, (6) IR Emitters, IR Receiver Eye, Power Adapter, Mounting Accessories.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Customers like the connectivity of the remote control. For example, they say it can control up to 6 devices and has additional expansion. They also say it works with a larger array of devices because of its extended frequency range. They mention that it allows them to operate all equipment while being in a cabinet and not visable. Customers are mixed about the sensitivity of the remote control. Some mention that the IR receiver is INCREDIBLY sensitive, while others say that it's not sensitive enough for their tastes. The receiver does pick up some interference when fluorescent lights are first turned on in the home, and there can be some interference with other remotes.

Customers are mixed about the signal strength of the remote control. Some mention it has super strong reception, all signals came through strong, and picks up the signal very well. However, others say that the only downside is the occasional missed signal or delay. They also say that it slows the signal and sometimes repeats the signals too much.

Customers are mixed about the quality of the remote control. Some mention it's a great product and an outstanding complement to an inexpensive JP1-class IR remote. However, others say it'd be better if the construction was better and the components are flimsy and fall apart.

Customers are mixed about the brightness of the remote control. Some mention that it has a blue LED light that flashes to let them know it's working. They say that it'll come on brightly when they first turn on the TV, while others say that the light is continually blue and glows solid blue.

I used this system for a week before my Hot Link Pro arrived, and I had to go into the closet of the next room with the remotes to activate any feature of the DirecTV receiver, the Blue-Ray player, or the VHS player. When my Hot Link Pro arrived, that all changed in a matter of a half-hour or less. Now all the remotes work perfectly from my chair in the living room. No hitches. (The next step will be to get an All-in-One remote like the Logitech Harmony One.) EDIT: I've since discovered that my DirecTV remote can be easily programmed to operate all four of my components: TV, DirecTV receiver, Blu-Ray/DVD player, and VHS player. It handles them all perfectly through my Hot Link Pro. So I won't be needing a new remote. Just do a google search for: "DirecTV remote code" and also include the model number of your component. You'll find forum websites where good geeks talk to each other and share all those codes. Easy.
I contacted the company by phone to find out if I needed to unplug the Hot Link when it wasn't in use. They said, no, you just leave it plugged in all the time. Perfect. I really didn't think that you had to plug the Hot Link in every time you wanted to use it, but it didn't hurt to check. By the way, if you want to get an idea of how well this company backs its products, check the COMMENTS to the one-star reviews and see how much they care about good service.
TIP: When you are looking for your component's IR receptors so you can stick the Hot Link's emitters directly in front of them, remember that there is a difference between your component's IR receptor and its associated confirmation light (if it has one). Often they are side-by-side and you can find them only by using a flashlight to search through the smoky plastic front of your component. The stick-um on the Hot Link's emitters seems perfectly adequate, but I secured them all again with clear plastic tape anyway.
[EDIT: August 29, 2012.] After six months, my Hot Link Pro is still working perfectly, just as if the components were stacked up in the living room with my TV. One remote for all four components, and everything but the TV out of sight. Couldn't be better.
[EDIT: November 28, 2012.] After nine months, no problems, no changes. Everything works perfectly.
[EDIT: February 15, 2013.] After one year, everything still perfect.
I use the Hot Link with four devices (TV, Sony receiver, DVD player and AT&T Uverse DVR (Motorola VIP 1225)). I have found you can point the RCA to the wall behind you and it still works! I mounted the Hot Link IR sensor on the back of the TV facing a wall and completely out of sight. There's also a signal confirmation blue diode which flashes to indicate it is receiving input from the remote - handy, especially when deciding on the optimal installation point for the Hot Link's IR receiver. A blue flash from the confirmation diode confirms that the Hot Link is receiving the signal from your remote. So if the confirmation diode flashes when you use your remote but the component does not respond, that suggests that you have placed the IR transmitter in the wrong location on the component. Once you have all components reacting appropriately, the confirmation diode can be hidden out of sight unless, that is, you like flashing lights.
This is like having RF functionality in an IR device. So for a total of under $90 if you use the remote referenced above you have the capability of a Harmony remote with their RF converter (selected models only) at far lower cost. While Harmony would have you believe that you just dial up, input your component models and all is sweetness and light, that is far from the case, and you will end up doing just as much manual programming as I had to with the inexpensive RAC RCRP05B if you want to emulate the full functionality of the original remotes which came with your components. My previous combination was the Harmony Touch Screen 1000 ("push screen" would be a far more accurate description) with their RF converter; the combination of the RCA RCRP05B and the Hot Link Pro is superior for one fifth of the aggregate cost.
Suffice it to say I no longer hear "Daddy, something went wrong with the TV"!
As for the unit, it works well ( well enough that I wanted to buy another one after 7 years). Would recommend the unit, just be sure you get a new one.
I then purchased a replacement unit (silly me) and that unit was DOA with similar issues. I'm looking to a different manufacturer for a solution. Unfortunately, my cable box is somewhat unique and needs the extra bandwidth that only these more expensive units provide.
