I have a record player that has RCA jack outputs and I was trying to set it up to the optical input onto a speaker system. To do that you need a analog-to-digital converter.
I read all the reviews and this one seemed to be okay. It came fairly quickly. Hooked it up, plugged it in, perfect result.
I know some people have reported that it has failed after a period of time. For the moment I have no issues. The transmission of the optical signal has been flawless. There's been no interruption of sound. And, it has improved the quality of the output of the sound tremendously
So, easy to install, good price, worked flawlessly. I have to give it five stars
I found that the left and right RCA analog inputs are reversed. Not really a big deal, you can just swap the RCA cables around, but it is kind of sloppy.
I tested both the optical and coaxial outputs. The optical output worked everywhere I tried it. The coaxial output worked, but it seemed to produce a kind of weak signal compared to other devices I own. I got a lot of crackling artifacts when I tried it with a 10 foot coaxial cable, and a 12 foot cable run didn't work at all. 10-12 feet is kind of pushing it for a coaxial S/PIDF cable run, but this other cheap Chinese device can drive a signal through the same cable just fine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E8C1XDI
The device is powered by 5V DC, but it uses an old-fashioned barrel connector. In my opinion, 5VDC devices should really use a USB connector for power, as that provides more options for powering it. While barrel connectors are a lot stronger than USB micro-B, this device will probably not get many connection cycles anyway, and if durability is a concern, a type-C connector wouldn't have added much cost if it was only being used for power. I did verify that the included power adapter does produce 5V, so it is labeled correctly. (5.2V, but that's close enough.)
I'm not sure if a different S/PIDF ADC would be better than this one. I'm guessing many of them use the same chip as this one. Just be aware that there are pitfalls to this product and plan on using a repeater if you need a long coax run.
ORIGINAL: Was using this as a connection for my audio system. Worked fine when I first got it. Now I tried to attach it to a second audio system and it's dead. Won't work in the original system any more either. Tried it with optical and coaxial cables. I was able to get both audio systems to work when connected directly to my amp and dac, so it's definitely this LinkS ADC that's dead. Totally unreliable. Don't waste your money.
