To help keep your company's wireless network safe, the LAPN600 features Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) security protocols, as well as 802.1X with RADIUS, or Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service, which provides administrators with a centralized way to authenticate users on the network.

Other security technologies built into the LAPN600 include Rogue AP Detection, which helps administrators identify authorized access points on the network; MAC address filtering to authorize or block particular devices based on their MAC address; SSID to VLAN mapping for connectivity; Wireless Broadcast Scheduling for transmitting packets of data to all devices on the network; and 802.1X Supplicant, which allows the access point to gain access to a secured wired network.

This router is even better than the Verizon fios router that came from the cable company. I planned on snaking a 100ft cat cable from my main router in the basement two flights up and have this router service the top floor. Well, I just set it up one night to test that it worked without going with my original plan and this router works like a charm from the basement! At least twice and strong as the router it's getting its signal from and results in steady connections through two ceilings and floors. Very impressed. Setup wasn't very easy but if you google it, it's not very hard to figure out. I think it involved hardwiring it and connecting directly to its IP which wasn't in the instructions (almost returned it) so give it a chance!

This is one sweet AP.....! I bought this to assist my Linksys AC1200 (EA6300) WiFi router that has really poor radio coverage. This AP allows you to connect via Ethernet 10/100/1000 using poe or included AC Adapter. The range is excellent and setup is actually quite easy to do. You can setup this unit within a matter of minutes using the quick connect web utility and/or manually configure it to suite your network needs. The wifi coverage is amazing, we have folks in the parking lot receiving our wifi signal with excellent strength. The unit is quite large in size but blends in really well in an office surrounding. It kind of looks like a jumbo sized smoke alarm. We have this connected to our gigabit poe switch and everyone gets connected without any problems what-so-ever. It's 2.4Ghz channel has a much wider range than the 5ghz channel but that is expected, however, the 5Ghz channel coverage is not anything to laugh at. We have several iPads running on the 5Ghz channel and they are working within the same range as the 2.4Ghz for what we need. So far the AP seems to be very reliable and we havn't had any problems so far. As for it's durability, we cannot tell at this moment considering we only installed it a few weeks ago. I would definitely recommend this product which to me is a bit more user friendly than the Ubiquiti AP's which seems to have a bit more complicated interface. I'm glad we decided to try this AP for the first time.

Edit: 03/18/2017: I had continuing problems with this AP over the last year or so. I did manage to reduce the cutouts by changing to a channel that didn't have so much competition from the neighbors (which seems to be what causes this product to lock up), but as of yesterday, the product is dead. A year and two months after I bought it. Wife came home and asked if the Wifi was up. As per the usual, "let me check the Linksys" since it goes down a lot. I looked over at it in the hallway and no light was on. Pulled it down, tried it in another PoE port. Nothing. This thing is finally dead, probably just out of warranty and even if it was still in warranty, it's not worth fixing. Looking forward to finding something better and learned my lesson about Linksys. Avoid.

Edit 04/20/16: Been stable for a couple of weeks now, which is good.

Edit 04/07/16: just had to pull this unit off the ceiling, unplug it, plug it back in, and wait for wireless clients to get service again. For this amount of money, I should not have to put up with this. Since everything started working again as soon as the ap rebooted, its clearly a fault with the ap and not the 3 devices that were having trouble connecting to the network. Seriously frustrating.

    Old review:

installed the N600 yesterday at home and so far I love it. We have a standard ranch style single story home, and we want Wifi from one corner of the garage all the way to the back of the master bedroom. I had a router/AP combo installed on the ceiling near the middle of the house, but as it was a home unit it wasn't powerful enough to reach the garage and the signal in the living room and patio was weaker than we wanted. We tried supplementing with a 2nd access point near the garage, but we found that mobile devices usually held on to the weakening (and eventually unusable) signal of the AP they originally connected to rather than switch to the stronger AP, so that solution wasn't that great.

I bought the LAPN600 and a PoE injector with the plan of mounting it in the central hallway about 15 feet from where the old router/AP combo was, but when I plugged the LAPN600 into the exact spot as the old unit (Ethernet was already there for testing) the signal reached the entire property. The signal in the garage is reported by the client as "low" but it can stream video and audio just fine. I couldn't even get a DHCP lease before.

I still used PoE so I didn't have to climb in the attic and install the power adapter, and I'm absolutely thrilled with how simple this was to set up and how well it works (not to mention how clean and good it looks). We have 4 SSIDs going; two for us and two guest networks, one each on the 2.4 and 5GHz radios. Simple, effective, and attractive unit. A white unit on a white ceiling, nobody will ever notice it except when the see how well our Wifi works.

One quick note - the unit is quite a bit larger than you might think, so be aware of the dimensions. It's about 9" point to point, but if you are considering typical home products you might assume it's around 6" point to point from photos with nothing to compare to.

When I got this Linksys N600 accesss point, it was easy to set up and configure, but after a few hours of being happy with the improved speed on the WiFi devices in our home, it started randomly disconnecting, and it was very hard to resurrect the admin connection through the LAN to try and troubleshoot the problem. This went on for days, and I was pretty much resigned to sending it back, but I don't give up easily, especially with technical challenges. After trying all the usual things to no avail, as has been mentioned in past reviews, I decided, after some thought, to try removing it from the 24 port Ethernet switch I had it plugged into, and instead, plugging it into its own dedicated port on my SonicWall hardware firewall... voilà!! it has not gone down or even hiccuped in over a month. I realize most user's situations will be different, but it may be an important clue that it was NOT happy being connected to a switch with a bunch of other stuff on it.

These access points have a known issues with radio beacon lock-up and failure. I am rebooting my LAP600 daily now. No new firmware to update too. It "hangs" on the 2.4Ghz side; log errors appear in both LAP300 (single band 2.4Ghz) and LAP600 (Dual band).

Error is "ath_bstuck_tasklet: stuck beacon; resetting (bmiss count 18)" - Read the LINKSYS/CISCO KB's for more information on po0ssible solutions - I haven't found one.
