Linksys WRT1900AC Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router
Bring unparalleled Wi-Fi performance into your home with the WRT1900AC Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router from Linksys. Featuring a unique four external antenna configuration and a powerful 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, the router is engineered to support active online households by eliminating dead spots in multistory buildings. Multiple users can simultaneously game online, stream movies, and transfer files without lagging interruptions. In addition to four Gigabit Ethernet ports, the router provides connectivity to wired devices via a USB 3.0 port and dual eSATA/USB 2.0 port, letting you transfer huge files without the wait. The WRT1900AC also is equipped with exclusive Linksys Smart Wi-Fi software for total home network control and is open source ready for advanced users who want to customize their firmware.
Professional-Grade Processor to Handle Data
The WRT1900AC is powered by a commanding 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM processor that can handle copious amounts of data extremely fast, easily supporting multiple online users and digital devices all at once. Households won’t suffer slow transfer rates when web surfing, video streaming or online gaming.
Four High-Performance Antennas and Dual Band Wi-Fi Coverage
The Linksys WRT1900AC was the industry’s first router to feature four external, adjustable antennas to ensure optimal coverage and maximum signal strength at all times. By utilizing four high performance antennas, the router enhances dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) performance to eliminate dead zones and spotty coverage in the far corners of your home. Dual wireless bands deliver transfer speeds of up to 1.3 Gbps for a strong, reliable Wi-Fi signal in the home. A high-powered amplifier helps maximize signal strength and coverage, even in multistory homes.
Beamforming Creates Stronger, Faster Connections
With Wireless-AC technology, the WRT1900AC router leverages Beamforming, an innovative technology that enables the router to strengthen the wireless signal to specific devices, rather than simply sending out Wi-Fi in a general direction. This results in faster network speeds, better wireless range, reduced interference from other devices, and stronger Wi-Fi connections.
Attach External Storage Device to Share Content with eSATA, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0
The WRT1900AC is built for wired connection to an array of digital devices using the enhanced USB 3.0 or the unique eSATA/USB2.0 combo port. By integrating the eSATA port, users who prefer to attach an external SATA storage device can utilize the eSATA cable that came with their storage unit and benefit from optimal data transfer speeds. The eSATA port can also be used as a USB 2.0 port.
Open Source Ready
Advanced users can further customize the WRT1900AC, which will have open source firmware from third-party websites. Developed for use with OpenWRT, an open-source, Linux-based operating system, users can modify the router to suit a particular application.
Wireless Repeater Mode and Wireless Bridge Mode for a Powerful Wi-Fi Network
Users who own a second WRT1900AC will enjoy a more powerful wireless signal using the SMART Wi-Fi interface. Now you can extend the Wi-Fi signal for both of the router's dual bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) with Wireless Repeater Mode, or just one of the bands with Wireless Bridge Mode. Either option effectively turns the WRT1900AC into a powerful range extender or wireless bridge, adding range and speed to wired and wireless connections on your network.

A few things up front.
1. There is presently no open source (DD-WRT) support for this router due to incomplete information from the manufacturer. This information is posted on DD-WRT’s website if you wish to read further.
2. The manufacturer has been slow to provide updates for this router despite forums being clogged with requests for assistance, there are even u-tube videos from owners demonstrating these issues.
So buyer be aware…
I experienced the same issues other reviewers described and found workarounds for the wireless disconnect issues. Attached is a .jpg of my wireless setup that resolved the intermittent issues.
Rather than allowing the router to operate in “auto” mode I chose specific channels and networks. This configuration has been up and running without a single fault for 2 weeks.
The world being what it is, I hope this works for you however I make no promises or guarantees.
If you are having issues with your router
• Download the latest firmware.
• Perform a factory reset to the router prior to installing the new firmware.
The WRT54G was my favorite router. Married to the DD-WRT firmware it was solid and reliable. It is my backup router when all others have failed. Including my Netgear N900 that bricked recently.
I firmly believe the WRT1900A has the same potential once dd-wrt or other firmware becomes available for it. For now the manufacturer has released an anemic firmware update that has resolved the random router reboot while in the admin screen.
This router has so much potential from a hardware standpoint that is is a shame that the OEM firmware has little to offer and the support being provided by Belkin/Linksys/Marvel to the 3rd party developers is so poor. They have had almost 2 years to get the 3rd party firmware working but with the poor support of the manufacturer it still is not performing as it should.
Belken/Linksys/Marvel have finally provided the 3rd party folks a decent wireless driver. Am currently running a LEDE firmware build with the latest drivers from Marvel. Works really well and gives great coverage in my house. For those wondering what LEDE firmware is, a group of developers left Openwrt to form their own version of Openwrt called LEDE. From what I read these are the core group of Openwrt developers.
With the latest builds of Openwrt and DD-WRT (Kong's builds) this is a solid router with now good wireless drivers.
Have not used the OEM firmware for sometime so cannot comment on it. Belken/Linksys/Marvel have not provided any new firmware since 2015 which was ok, but limited in functions.
