Linksys AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender
With the Linksys AC1200 AMPLIFY Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE6700), you can easily eliminate dead zones and expand the range of your existing wireless router and take advantage of Wireless-AC performance.
Using Spot Finder Technology on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone, you can quickly determine optimal placement of the extender in relation to your router. The AC1200 AMPLIFY will then repeat the signal from your router and redistribute it to reduce wireless dead spots with a combination of Crossband and Beamforming technologies.
Not only does Wireless-AC performance allow you to stream videos and play online games without interruption, you can even stream audio from your smartphone using the extender's audio jack. The addition of a convenient pass-through power outlet allows you to keep your power outlets free for use.

Easy Setup and Optimal Placement with Spot Finder TechnologyCompatible with your smartphone, laptop, or tablet, Linksys Spot Finder Technology provides a unique visual representation of the distance between your AC1200 AMPLIFY and your router. The three-step setup ensures that you position the extender in an optimum location so you can enjoy the maximum Wi-Fi signal--even in the far reaches of your home and outdoors. |
Integrated Power OutletThanks to the integrated power pass-through, you can maintain use of the power outlet even when the AC1200 AMPLIFY is plugged in. The integrated power outlet function on your range extender works exactly like a normal electrical outlet, and is not controlled in any way by the range extender. |
Stream Audio Wirelessly Throughout Your HomeThe AC1200 AMPLIFY extender's 3.5mm audio jack allows you to connect a stereo system or speaker directly to the range extender to stream music wirelessly from your iOS or Android smartphone, tablet, or laptop. With no additional setup needed to connect your wireless device, you can start streaming the moment the AC1200 AMPLIFY is connected to your network. Android users can also stream music with apps that support DLNA digital media sharing. |
Gigabit Ethernet Wired ConnectionIn addition to wireless connectivity, the RE6700 features a Gigabit Ethernet port, which allows you to establish a secure wired connection with speeds up to 1,000 Mbps to a desktop, laptop, or any other device featuring an Ethernet port. |

---|---|---|---|
Crossband Technology for a Seamless ConnectionInnovative Crossband technology allows for the simultaneous use of both bands, rather than relying on one radio band to do all the work. This allows information to be obtained on one band and transmitted on the other, resulting in reduced dropped data packets, faster media transfer speeds, and a stronger, more consistent signal throughout your home. |
Beamforming Provides Top SpeedsFeaturing dual wireless bands of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, the AC1200 AMPLIFY can deliver data transfer speeds of up to N300 + AC867 Mbps** for uninterrupted streaming. Beamforming ensures optimal network performance, directing signals to your device to eliminate interruptions. |
Universally Compatible with RoutersThe AC1200 AMPLIFY is compatible with virtually any Wi-Fi router or gateway, with no need to adjust your router's settings when installing the extender. Simply connect the AC1200 AMPLIFY to your current wireless network to enjoy Internet access on all your devices, from anywhere in your home. |

-Like all other extenders, it will heat up pretty quickly. Being experienced about that, I bought USB fans and use a hub with on/off buttons to keep things workable and convenient. Well, I would not say convenient 100% because I think all extenders should do better about the thermal.
-Not made in China. It is made in Taiwan, nowadays I would really pay more to be using things that are not from China. No offense to Chinese people but we all know there are chips in those Chinese devices like TP-link, damn cheap, and got all the personal info compromised. Make a better choice whenever we can afford, make the world better.
-The setting portal is not good enough. Whenever I make changes regarding the dual band/cross band, it will say processing and it sometimes does not "really" saving the changes, have to do it couple more times to make sure.
-I think Linksys should lower the price as many people cannot afford this. I think 99 dollars is quite a lot. I rent a place and my place supposed to provide everything about the wifi but you know things are not always perfect so I have to do it by myself. 99 dollars is quite pricey. Many people who cannot afford would just buy those TP-Link extenders, 30-40% cheaper. Well how many people would battle the price? People mostly just concern the price and not other things like security. Price is an instant gratification, if it is highly priced because of where it is made, get subsidies, get some support from government or whatever. Don't wait until losing the battle because of price and those Chinese CCP-State-Run companies.

This device is completely flaky. I have just thrown away four hours of my life trying to get it to work correctly, including two calls to Linksys tech support. (But not, however, including the time I'm spending to write this review.) I have been through the initial setup procedure FIVE TIMES, three of them going step by step with a Linksys T.S. person on the other end of the phone. Sometimes, after a setup, nothing at all worked, and I had to push a toothpick into the reset hole yet again. Sometimes, the device broadcasts an SSID, but has no connection to the internet. Sometimes when it has gotten an IP address from the router, and therefore allows access to the Internet, I get data rates which are somewhat better than I get by simply using the SSID broadcast by my router, but sometimes I'll see rates of under 10 Mbps, or an entire loss of the network.
The HTTP-based admin interface will serve pages sometimes, but won't even be reachable at others. (That is, sometimes port 80 is reported as open by a port scan of the extender device, but sometimes it's not on the list.) Sometimes I'll click on a link and get a placeholder page, although the page I came from will continue to be served. Sometimes a refresh of the page I'm currently looking at yields a placeholder page. Sometimes the admin interface claims that the extender device hasn't been set up yet, even though I'm using it to connect to the Internet, and that connection is supplying the very page which is telling me that the extender is not accessible. The T.S. support response to every weirdness was to suggest that I do a hard reset on the device and go through the setup procedure again — a sequence which is not, apparently, guaranteed to result in a working device. Using a somewhat lighter hammer, I've power-cycled the device about 10 times in 4 hours to get back enough functionality to continue to debug the thing.
There had been a firmware update since the unit was manufactured. During one of the random times during which the admin interface had decided to work, I downloaded and installed the update, after which the device stopped working. A call to T.S. revealed that the damn thing needs to go through a hard reset and the entire setup procedure again after EVERY firmware update. It would seem to me that a few words of NVRAM and a checksum might have been spared to allow the extender to remember what its purpose in life is.
I think that if I need more bandwidth when my laptop is at a place in the home where I'm getting 50 Mbps, the right technological solution is to pick it up and walk in into the living room, where I'll consistently get between 160 and 200 Mbps. That's technology which works 10 times out of 10, instead of 2 times out of 10.
