Pros:
- It definitely works. I have a 2000 sq. ft. house and I have great coverage end-to-end. Video quality from streaming does not suffer. Download speeds are fast!
- Unobtrusive & looks nice.
- Has an ethernet out line if you don't have WiFi.
Cons:
- The software truly sucks. You have to run it from CD (which was almost a problem as my work laptop has no CD drive!). It took a few tries for the software to properly find my AP. Once it did, I haven't been able to use the software to find it again. The AP still seems to work, but no more configuration seems possible.
- I ultimately ended up having to swap locations of my router and my AP. I work in IT, so if I work from home, I need to connect to my work VPN. For some reason, when my work laptop was closer to the AP, the VPN would drop it's signal frequently. When I have it closer to my router, it stays connected just fine. Swapping locations of my router and AP seemed to do the trick. I have a feeling it has something to do with multiple signals broadcasting through the house and it would occasionally pick up the router signal and switch to that. No idea if that's true or not, but incredibly irritating.
Ultimately, this product met my needs. The process itself is a little rough around the edges, but once you get it working, it's great.
The replacement came quickly, and the install process this time was a breeze. The devices properly recognized each other and linked up.
I now have essentially full signal strength in an area of my house where it was only half before. Just what I was looking for.
Day 5 at suggestion of Linksys updated firmware of router and no dropped connections so far. Going to give it another try.
