The router arrived in good packaging, the box was big enough for it, but the package that was holding the router was broken. I was not sure if the router was used, or just a faulty packaging. It looks like someone has cut the plastic with scissors or a knife.
The setup was really, really, really easy, it takes less than 10 minutes to install the software and get everything connected. I have connected more than 8 devices already to the network. There was no issue with connecting Epson WF2540 and allowing it to share for all devices. I don't see any issues with AirPlay.
I have read reviews stating that some people have trouble with streaming. I don't have the issue with streaming from my laptop to the TV or any other device. My recommendation is to check your internet speed, and if you have a lot of devices connected at the same time that might be the issue as well that the provider is not providing enough juice to the router. I configured the router for AirPlay with the help of lifehacker.com website . Search for "How to make your entire home airplay compatible".
When I am on the second floor of the house the signal is good, but when going down to the basement I see sometimes that the signal gets lost but then it comes back.
Note that the name during the installation will be used the same for both the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz bands. It is normal for dual-band router to have two networks with the same name. You are able to connect to either 2.Read more ›
Honestly folks, it was the easiest setup I have ever seen. And the router is a real work horse.
I've always had trouble with Belkin products and sure enough I couldn't easily get web support on this. Linksys apparently is no more, but whether it was actually made by Belkin or Cisco, it doesn't work and I couldn't easily get support to assist me.
I had had enough - so back it went. Thankfully to Amazon, they have a good return policy.
It CAN be upgraded with the Tomato Firmware, which will give you much better security, function, features, and pro router level ability. (You can also increase your wifi range using built in settings for boosting signal, but do not go above 70 signal strength as this will make the wifi chip run hotter than designed.)
Tomato/Linux firmware installed/exact binary I used was latest Shibby build for the Linksys e2500 / file name is:
You can easily revert back to your original firmware if the need for that comes up.
The reason for minus one star is the wifi USB adaptor is not very good and tends to overheat/drop signal and has some crappy driver operation in various operating systems. (You can correct the heat issues by using a Dremel to make air slots in the plastic cover.)
UPDATE: (5-7-14) - Everything still works fine, upgraded firmware has been awesome. Just now updated again and can confirm Tomato/Shibby firmware build below also works just as well on this router.
If you are having the same issues we were with the Xfinity router, you should definitely buy this one! Make sure you disable the Comcast router so they don't interfere with each other.
I would highly, highly, highly recommend this!

This worked great for me, the only pain was you have to hard wire into a LAN plug to set up and most laptops/tablets these days do not have that.Published 8 months ago by Charlie C.
