I'm knitting on size 14 needles, and this stuff knits up really quickly. Also, its bulkiness seems to be forgiving when it comes to sloppy stitching (I knit on the train and the motion can sometimes mess with my ability to keep consistent tension). The resulting knit is fantastically soft (have I mentioned how soft this yarn is?), thick and cozy, and remarkably stretchy..
So, if this yarn is so fantastic, why not 5 stars? Well, I notice that the strand seems to come apart pretty easily. I've stuck the needle into the strand more than once, and met no resistance. Also, I notice that as I'm working through my first skein, about a quarter of the way through, the strand is somewhat unraveled already. I'm hoping that it'll stay together once it's knit into the scarf, but it's kind of discouraging to encounter this so early on.
All in all, this yarn is nice - works up fast, makes a really nice feeling product, and it's soft (seriously). As long as it holds up, I think I'll be buying more of this yarn!
I've amended my review from 4 stars to 5. After going through 3 skeins of this yarn, I've absolutely fallen in love with it. Yes, it does kind of come apart a little bit while knitting, but the finished product seems like it's going to be durable. Also, it just feels so nice - anything you make with this yarn is going to be soft, thick, and cozy. It really is a fantastic yarn.
Have no fear, Super Bulky is here!
A super thick yarn pairing with just as thick needles makes for a super speedy hat that will keep any demanding relative happy in a pinch! Hometown USA is soft, durable, and cozy for an acrylic and is one of my favorite Oh-God-Stop-Asking-For-Hand-Knits yarn!
First a warning...if you're making a large project and you need to match the dye lot, consider ordering from the manufacturer. I ordered three skeins from Amazon and they came in two different shipments with two different dye lots. The color is grey, there isn't a noticeable difference in the yarns (to me anyway) and this was a practice project. But for something important where color matching does matter...I'll head to the yarn shop. But that day is a very long way off, so Amazon it is...
This yarn is loosely twisted. When I had to pull out rows, it did separate a bit. It was also easy to stick my needle into the strand of yarn or miss getting the whole loop on the needle. The yarn is also fairly thick.
The Dallas Grey color is really nice.
Because the yarn was so soft, it felt a bit slippery.
I'm really happy with the finished scarf. It's super soft. It's toasty warm. It's really thick. An all around nice scarf.
