Wool-Ease is a #4 worsted weight, although I find it to knit as a light worsted (not sport). The quality of all of Lion Brand yarns is consistently high. Wool-Ease washes and wears beautifully. A blend of 80% acrylic and 20% wool gives the luxurious feel of wool with the wear-ability and wash-ability of acrylic - and NO itchiness.
I thoroughly recommend this yarn for any apparel project (or otherwise) that you may be considering.
One thing to keep in mind - however - due to the high acrylic content of this yarn it does not block as well as wool. I would avoid doing any heavy lacework/openwork type patterns, as they won't want to block open. It cables beautifully and produces a lovely textured stitch as well. Wonderful pattern definition.
The puffiness also means that when you are working a tighter stitch, such as when making a stuffed animal, it actually works up more like a DK yarn. I've attached a photo of two cords that I made using a simple two-strand technique. The brown one is this yarn and the grey one is Paton's spinrite DK yarn. You can see that both cords are almost the same thickness, even though the Lion Brand yarn is supposed to be worsted weight and should be a bit thicker. This is because the Lion Brand yarn compresses.
The texture is also really scratchy and when I work with it it causes my fingers to get sore and irritated, something that doesn't happen with other wool yarns.
The advantage of this yarn is that it is fairly inexpensive. That said, if you are getting it to work up something with a tight stitch, like a stuffed animal, you are not getting your money's worth.
I am so impressed with the handling and life of this yarn, that when I decided to make myself another sweater, I went straight to the Wool-Ease.
The yarn is easy to knit with, and can be machine washed and dried - according to the manufacturer. Personally, I hand wash and air dry all my good sweaters to maintain their shape.
I find my finished sweater to be very warm and comfy. I highly recommend this yarn for knitters (or crocheters) who want to create warm, easy care garments.

Nice tweedy effect when knitted or crocheted. Looks nice with denim clothing. It's not the softest yarn - okay for me, but perhaps not for wearers who are very sensitive to... Read morePublished 11 days ago by Bun-Bun Baxter

The Frost white is much, much thinner than the other Wool-Ease varieties. I have several colors in this line; the others are a true medium weight but this one is very thin.Published 1 month ago by M.R.
