I really enjoy these short stories from Mark Teppo. They are wonderful vignettes about the Shield Brethren and their impact on this alternate history. Certainly worth $2 if you enjoy the Mongoliad Series.

A fun and creative short story about King Richard's scheme to free himself from the Holy Roman Emperor's prison by leading those trying to exploit him into a trap of his own. The young Feronantus is the major character, though Robin of Locksley puts in a surprise appearance.

Gives us some back story on Ferontanus and Rutger and serves us a very interesting lady personage.
Was she just an agent of Richard's queen. Richard does not come over as such a great hero type here.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Usual portrait of that time period shows Robin Hood vs Prince John, nothing much is said about Richard except he's a bigger than life figure, gone crusading or missing while on crusade, only vague rumors are coming back. Now it's nice to flesh out a picture of Richard with his greatness AND flaws, and discover where Robin was and why he came back to England. And it surely explains his later anger at how the poor soldiers were treated by the nobility and his actions when he gets back and into the well-known conflict between Prince John (and the Sherriff)...but that's another story.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Quality prose, compelling weaving of history and imagination, with seamless incorporation of unique characters and literary license to bring all the elements together. Looking forward to further installments impatiently. Get to work Teppo!

A really good story about a little known time in the Lion Heart's reign. I have not read other books in this series but would like to now. The two minions I think I am meant to like more than I do especially her. Perhaps she will improve and unbend a little later, but Richard is a treasure. Good stuff.

Anchored by the real event of king Richard's (the Lionheart) imprisonment as he returned from the Crusades by the holy roman emperor, this novella provides an introduction to one of the key characters and organizations followed in the three books of the Mongoliad. While this novella can stand on it's own narrative merits it serves best as a prequel to the Mongoliad.

I was first exposed to this through the Kickstarter for Clang. Since then I've been buying each story in this series and loving them all. Heh, it doesn't hurt that I was told that I was named after Richard I.
