One of the main reasons people take vitamin C supplements is to boost their immunity, as vitamin C is involved in many parts of the immune system.* First, vitamin C helps encourage the production of white blood cells known as lymphocytes and phagocytes, which supports the body's natural defenses.* Second, vitamin C helps these white blood cells function more effectively while protecting them from damage by potentially harmful molecules, such as free radicals.* Third, vitamin C is an essential part of the skin’s defense system. It’s actively transported to the skin, where it can act as an antioxidant and help strengthen the skin’s barriers.* |
Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant. Low levels of this vitamin have been linked to an impaired ability to think and remember.* Moreover, several studies have shown that people with memory loss may have lower blood levels of vitamin C.* Furthermore, high vitamin C intake from food or supplements has been shown to have a protective effect on thinking and memory as you age.* |
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your body’s natural defenses.* Antioxidants are molecules that helps fortify the immune system. They do so by protecting cells from harmful molecules called free radicals.* When free radicals accumulate, they can promote a state known as oxidative stress, which has been linked to many health issues.* Consuming more vitamin C may increase your blood antioxidant levels by up to 30%.* |

I recommend vitamin C for all of my patients. In general, I recommend Liposomal Vitamin C. Read on to find out why. First, I will say that through the years for myself, I have been happy with another brand but regret the price. I found NutriFlair and found that it has 20% more vitamin C per serving (same number of servings) and is actually 38% cheaper. That ends up being a value of about 48% higher.
So -- what's the deal with Vitamin C? Here's the thing, we are one of the only mammals that don't produce its own vitamin c. Vitamin C is important for the skin, hair, nails, but most importantly, it plays a vital role in the function of our immune system. The issue with vitamin C taken by mouth is that Vitamin C is one of the most delicate vital chemicals (vitamins) that we consume. Air, sun, water, and other chemicals in our digestive tracts ruin the chemical bonds. The RDA (recommended daily allowance) is the amount necessary to prevent scurvy. However, the amount you need to keep your immune system is actually quite a bit higher. A lot higher. You would have to take so much vitamin C (like 10's of thousands of milligrams) to get the amount you actually need for a healthy immune system. The problem with that is that that amount would give you a very bad case of diarrhea and it would be very expensive.
Enter "liposomal vitamin c." The delicate bonds are protected because the ascorbate (Vitamin C) is protected in a fatty "liposome" sphere. This offers chemical and physical protection of the elements and allows for it to become absorbed into your body. Thus, a single daily dose of 1200 mg has the effect of tens of thousands of mg.
In summary, this vitamin c has a much more effective mode of delivery, is high quality, is inexpensive, and is effective.

FINALLY found a Doc that recognizes importance and validity of Vit C. She tested my Vitamin C levels and it was highly recommended I start on a higher than usual dose to bring levels up.......I supplemented with Vit C, but apparently not enough...SO....did a lot of Vit C research and lo and behold Vit C deficiency explains a lot of my symptoms the previous docs missed...hallelujah. Was intrigued by the Lipsomal science and decided to put it to the test. I chose the Nutriflair brand Liposomal based on customer reviews and reading the companies processes. Always relying on testing, we re-checked Vit C levels three weeks following initial test and supplementing with Nutriflair, and levels had increased substantially. I also noticed positive physical changes as well. I like the convenience of the Nutriflair capsules and the higher msg - ez to swallow for me...... As a researcher, I continued to scour the internet for info/peer-reviewed studies/books/etc. I found Dr. Thomas Levy informative, and have now adopted his idea of utilizing various forms of Vit C over the course of the day. The Mad Scientist in me, loves to experiment, so I'm doing a test - taking Nutriflair as my Liposomal choice; a Vit C powder; and an Camu Camu powder (one of the highest "whole food" forms of vitamin c on the planet) - spread out over the course of the day - with the goal of reducing cellular oxidation. I'm getting ready to order my next Nutriflair bottle this week. Nurtiflair offered a free bottle for a review....but I would have written this review the exact same way without the freebie. The results are in the testing. I encourage you to work with your healthcare team and test your Vit C levels.

I much prefer the Lypo–Spheric brand Vitamin C, however, the NutriFlair C is about half as expensive and has far more doses (I believed) so I thought I’d try it. I noticed this brand is Ascorbyl Palmitate. THEN, I came across this interesting article on C Easter:
https://coremedscience.com/blogs/wellness/how-to-pick-the-best-liposomal-vitamin-c
“The "Fat Soluble" Vitamin C Ester Myth
A perfect example of a product taking advantage of the "liposomal" term is a type of vitamin C a vitamin C ester. Usually labeled as "fat soluble" vitamin C, esters like Ascorbyl Palmitate are marketed as a “liposomal” but will never result in forming an actual "liposome".
Here are some important facts about "fat soluble" Ascorbyl Palmitate:
Ascorbyl palmitate is not found in nature. It is SYNTHETIC, made by combining palmitate (an ester, fat) with vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid).
Ascorbyl palmitate is used as a "FOOD PRESERVATIVE" to extend the shelf life of certain foods, medications, and cosmetics.
Ascorbyl Palmitate is also known as "Cetyl Ascorbate"....(two different names for the same compound)
Ascorbyl Palmitate is ONLY 42.5% VITAMIN C
Products that claim "1600 mg Liposomal Vitamin C" using Ascorbyl Palmitate ONLY PROVIDE 680 mg of actual vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)
This last point is very important. Because Ascorbyl Palmitate is made by combining vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) to Palmitate (a fat), less than half of it is true vitamin C ! (source 20, source 21).
Ascorbyl Oleate is another vitamin C ester very similar to the Ascorbyl Palmitate compound, binding Oleate (another fat) to ascorbic acid.
Ester forms of vitamin C, like Ascorbyl Palmitate, are easily digested after oral ingestion by enzymes in the small intestine which cleave the bond immediately releasing just plain vitamin C (ascorbic acid molecule) and the ester, in this case palmitate, before any absorption can take place.
When this digestion happens, plain vitamin C is released from the ester and no improved absorption occurs when compared to a standard vitamin C supplement. ( source 15, source 16 ). The bioavailability of fat soluble vitamin C esters is essentially identical to plain vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) alone. ( Source 18 )
The esters used may even have a negative impact, depending on the ingredient itself.
Unlike natural vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Ascorbyl Palmitate may actually be toxic to skin cells damaged by UV exposure according to one study. ( Source 17 )
The bottom line is this: These “Fat Soluble” forms of vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate, alscorbyl oleate, cetyl ascorbate), are rapidly digested before any absorption takes place, releasing plain vitamin C in your small intestine. Adding to the deception, "Fat Soluble" Vitamin C CONTAINS LESS THAN HALF actual vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)!
Unfortunately few people know this, results in unassuming customers paying top dollar for a product that is not much different than a standard vitamin C capsule or powder but has the term "liposomal" attached to it.”
So... I’m back to buying the Lypo–Spheric brand Vitamin C. I’ve found that five or six 1,0000 mg packets will stop a cold in it’s tracks if taken at first signs of illness.

My dad is a cancer survivor and is preaching about the importance of Vitamins. He told me to try Liposomal Vitamin C instead of regular Vitamin C. I must say I feel better since taking those. I tend to feel "sickish" a lot but I have been feeling really fit since taking these. Recommend buying those.
