A NOTE ABOUT PRIVACY: We (Liquid Entertainment) are a small independent game studio located in Pasadena, California. Paper Galaxy began as a labor of love in our spare time. Our goals for making this game were simple: make a game that we could play with our own kids and have fun doing so, make the game completely non-violent, include purely optional in-app purchasing, and tell a simple story of finding your way back home within a whimsical and charming universe.

Some users have voiced concerns about the app’s permissions, and in particular the "GET_TASKS" permission.

We originally implemented the "GET_TASKS" permission for use with our ‘Rate this App’ popup. Paper Galaxy does not now, and has never, utilized this permission to collect private data or snapshots of current tasks.

The only user data we collect is aggregate counts of game-related events: how many times did a particular upgrade get purchased, how many times did players complete the game, and so forth. We use this information solely to improve the experience in subsequent updates.

To eliminate any possible concerns regarding the "GET_TASKS" permission, we have uploaded a new build that has removed that permission.

Our privacy policy can be read in its entirety here:

When I first opened the game (and it forced portrait mode), I noticed the Privacy button. Clicking it opened my browser to the company's privacy page. Lo and behold, in the middle, there is a link to Flurry Analytics.

Flurry Analytics gathers information about YOUR device, and is one of those companies you don't want snooping on your phone or anything else you own.

Not only that, the game collects information about what other apps you are using or have recently used and sends that information back to the developer (and Flurry Analytics).

By the way, just to give you a sense of why you should be concerned about Flurry, read this front-page blurb, from the Director of analytics at Flurry, who wrote in her blog post:
"Flurry now measures apps used on more than 1 billion smartphones and tablets each month. As connected devices reach critical mass, marketers are more seriously incorporating mobile into the marketing mix. But there are pros and cons. While the collective size of the mobile audience is rivaling that of TV and other media, it still requires aggregating the audiences of many apps to reach what can be reached through a few TV programs. That said, the numbers are likely closer than you think. Additionally, mobile offers unique ways to engage consumers given its "always on, always present" characteristics."

I recommend reading the entire article on flurry.com's site; you will find it illuminating, if not frightening.

Regarding the game, the premise is that you have to chase a butterfly to the top of the screen while collecting stars and avoiding the monster at the bottom.

I got this app only because I wanted to write a review to counter all of the disgraceful, fake 5-star reviews posted by Liquid Entertainment and their accomplices. This is the kind of B.S. that ruins the App Store for everyone. Also, why should I give Liquid Entertainment access to my list of running tasks? They don't need this. The idea of paying Liquid Entertainment for extra stars in this game is absurd. I would highly suggest avoiding this game any other Liquid Entertainment apps!

Why on earth would an app suvh ad this need access to a thumbnail of my running or recently run tasks? I'm sorry, with a permission like that I would give it 0 stars if I could.

If you just take a moment to look at the permissions that the app ask for you to approve of you'd notice that this app is not safe and is pretty much just malware. I'm certain all the good reviews were done by the company and friends of the company which would be extreamly bias and unaware of how to properly review apps. I'm pretty sure by the end of the day every one who downloads it not knowing what it is (since it's free today) will unistall and give it a bad rating upon using it. Stay away from this until they change permissions. It's a shame because by the time they fix it (if they fix it) it won't be free anymore. I don't think the company is bad people but I still don't trust apps that ask for more power than they need to opperate properly.

No game needs to collecting this type of data and running in the background! With our privacy levels decreasing on a regular basis, this is an unacceptable addition to the mix!

"Get information about the currently or recently running tasks: a thumbnail representation of the tasks, what activities are running in it, etc"

Spyware is spyware and does not belong in a game/app that the seller is charging the end user a fee to own. I can somewhat understand greedy programmers putting sypware in free games, but once you start charging a fee for a game/app, all spyware should be removed. Ratings will suffer for those greedy programmers who insist on putting sypware in paid games/apps. Fair warning!!!
