Blog postIn my mind, today's launch of the spectacular new Apple TV+ series Prehistoric Planet is perfectly timed. The natural history streaming event arrives on day two of Laudato Si' week, the annual celebration of Pope Francis' encyclical “Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home". As we ponder globally our continuing commitment to care for and sustain our common home, a television series that invites us into a stunning new consideration of our past feels particularly timely. Blog postSince Daddy died, it feels like I've been away from Los Angeles more than I've been home. On one recent trip, I spent a day of travel binge-watching the new Apple TV+ docuseries They Call Me Magic. A no-holds-barred look at the life of one of LA's brightest stars, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, the four-part series left me contemplating how much I love the adopted hometown I share with this legendary superstar. Blog postWhen I attended a recent screening for the film MAN OF GOD, in theaters nationwide today, I walked in not knowing what to expect. The venue for the event was the beautiful Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles. While only a few miles from my home, this sacred spot was entirely new to me and the perfect backdrop for a film about the life of one of the Eastern Orthodox Church's most beloved saints, Nektarios of Aegina. Blog postThis weekend, I am in Anaheim for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles' annual Religious Education Congress. For as long as I can remember, Congress has been a bright spot in my year: a chance to gather with friends and colleagues from around the country, to catch up, and to be renewed. This year, while it's a much smaller gathering, Congress signals hope for a new path forward as we emerge into what will be our "new normal". Lisa M. Hendey, founder of the award-winning CatholicMom.com and bestselling author of The Handbook for Catholic Moms and The Grace of Yes shares her passion for the saints by introducing fifty-two holy companions as guides for the amazing vocation of Catholic motherhood.
Guided by the example of the saints, Hendey eloquently links personal stories, scripture, prayer, and soul-strengthening exercises into a spiritually rich and deeply practical resource for Catholic women. This edition includes a new preface and cover and is updated with information about saints canonized since the first edition.
Allow The Book of Saints for Catholic Moms to help you grow in your faith and enrich your heart, mind, body, and soul by spending each week of the year with Lisa M. Hendey and a different saint. This award-winning spiritual guidebook introduces you to popular saints such as Thérèse of Lisieux, Teresa of Calcutta, John Paul II, and Patrick, as well as lesser known but equally inspiring saints such as Gianna Beretta Molla and Damien of Molokai.
Each week Hendey offers:
- a thematic prayer intention;
- biographical and devotional information about the saint;
- lessons she learned from each saint;
- daily scripture meditations;
- prayers;
- activities for moms and children; and
- practical, spiritually rich steps that help moms incorporate the wisdom and exemplary faith of each figure into their own lives.
Lisa Hendey, bestselling author of I’m a Saint in the Making, presents a delightful board book to help young children discover that God has a special mission just for them!
Even ordinary people can live amazing lives. That’s the message of Saints Like Me, a book to help the youngest children understand that God has a plan and a purpose for their lives! We don’t have to be grownups, and we don’t have to do big things. Whenever we do a little thing with great love, we are just like Jesus and the saints!
Saints Like Me:
Reassures children that God knows, loves, and hears them
Instills values of self-respect, care for others, and care for the earth
Helps children understand that God loves them unconditionally, no matter what
Makes a great gift for birthdays, First Communion, All Saints Day, toddlers, and preschoolers
With whimsical illustrations by Katie Broussard and sweet, simple text by popular Catholic author, catechist, mother, and grandmother Lisa Hendey, Saints Like Me will be a welcome gift for every young family.
Since the first edition was published in 2010, it’s become an indispensable resource for two generations of Catholic moms, offering a unique perspective on all aspects of life and honest advice from fellow moms on topics ranging from marriage and finances to stress management and parish life.
The Handbook for Catholic Moms is not a typical parenting book: It doesn’t offer tips for calming a fussy baby or dealing with adolescent angst. In caring for yourself—heart, mind, body, and soul—you can better love and care for your family, community, and Church, according to Lisa M. Hendey, founder of CatholicMom.com and bestselling author of The Book of Saints for Catholic Moms and The Grace of Yes.
Hendey provides her personal stories and observations on a number of topics, including:
- stress reduction and sleep
- nurturing your marriage
- engaging in Mass as a family
- modeling lifelong learning to your children
- balancing your career with your vocation as a mother
Each chapter includes relevant scripture references, quotations from saints or noted Catholic figures, commentary and perspectives from other Catholic writers, and checklists of suggested steps moms can take in bringing better balance and integration to their lives.
Includes information for parents, teachers and caregivers, with suggestions and guidelines for building a love for storytelling in the hearts of children. With encouragement and empowerment, young storytellers are sent on a mission to engage the world around them with joy and creativity.
Inspired by our prayer community at CatholicMom.com, As Morning Breaks offers 365 daily reflections on the Liturgy of the Word and the Gospels. With each daily meditation, the reader is invited into a further examination of the Gospel passage. A "ponder" question is provided for contemplation, discussion or journaling. Each meditation ends with a brief prayer. These prayers are offered as a springboard for your own quiet meditative prayer.
Penned by over thirty authors and written from a variety of vocational perspectives, As Morning Breaks invites you to make morning prayer a fruitful part of your day. In encouraging us to prayerfully engage with the Gospels, Pope Francis shared in Evangelii Gaudeum (The Joy of the Gospel), "With Christ joy is constantly born anew." We invite you to pray with us, a community of believers from around the world, and to more fully ponder the joy of the Gospel in your heart. With links to each day's Gospel passage and in accordance with the Liturgical Calendar of the Catholic Church, this book is designed to offer you a beautiful, prayerful and joyful start to your day.
Authors for As Morning Breaks: Abbey Dupuy, Allison DeWolf, Allison Gingras, Catherine Boucher, Christine Johnson, Colleen Spiro, Cynthia Costello, Deacon Tom & Dee Fox, Deanna Bartalini, Diane Schwind, Dr. Mary Amore, Elizabeth "Ebeth" Weidner, Ellen Toole, Fergal O'Neill, Grace Urbanski, Jay Cuasay, Jeannie Ewing, Jennifer Fitz, Jennifer Gladen, Julie Paavola, Justin Stroh, Kelly Guest, Kirk Whitney, Laura Phelps, Lisa M.
