Lisa Steele is an enthusiastic chicken keeper extraordinaire and the darling of the backyard chicken keeping community. A 5th generation chicken keeper, Maine Master Gardener, aspiring herbalist and coop to kitchen cook in addition to being a top-selling author and the creative mind behind the Better Homes & Gardens award-winning blog Fresh Eggs Daily®, Lisa engages fans worldwide with her easy, fun and accessible approach to raising backyard flocks naturally. She inspires both the newcomer and the seasoned chicken keeper alike to grab a pair of kitchen shears and head out to the herb garden on their way to the chicken coop.
Whether it's sharing the recipe for her all-natural coop cleaning spray, hanging curtains or discussing which herbs to use to freshen the nest boxes, Lisa provides the know-how to keep your chickens happy and healthy from the small hobby farm in Maine she shares with her husband, flock of chickens and ducks, two dogs and indoor/outdoor tuxedo cat.
A former 4-H kid, Lisa's passion for chickens began anew as an adult when she and her husband moved out to the country and decided to try raising some baby chicks. She now puts her own creative spin on old-timers' methods to inspire and encourage others to raise both chickens and ducks as naturally as possible.
In addition to authoring books, Lisa frequently writes for HGTV Gardens, Hobby Farm, Backyard Poultry magazine and Chickens magazine and the Farmers Almanac, and has appeared on several national radio and television programs including P. Allen Smith's Garden Style on PBS. She also tours the country speaking and making public appearances. Most recently, she co-produced and is hosting a new "chicken lifestyle" television show "Fresh Eggs Daily with Lisa Steele" on WPXT/WPME-TV out of Portland Maine.
When not acting, writing, traveling, tending to her chickens, ducks, gardens and home or spending time with her husband and their dogs, Lisa can usually be found cooking and baking using fresh produce from the garden and fresh eggs from the coop, or curled up in a corner reading or knitting. She loves pretty things, good coffee, classical music and snow - especially at Christmas time.
