I grew up in my father's gas station in the early 70s and remember seeing his mechanics using Lisle tools all the time. I also remember seeing them at the NAPA store and knowing they had to be top quality. 40 years later and times have changed. I bought this set so I could remove the bolts holding the gas tank in my car. The sockets are not forged, but pressed together out of 4 pieces of metal. Looking into the drive end of the sockets you can see the gaps between the separate chunks of steel. You cannot put much torque on these cheap sockets or they will fall apart like a cheap watch.

I use these in a collision repair facility.

A couple of these don't go all the way onto the tool. Several don't retain very well (they come off the tool very easily). But they seem tough enough. I use mine with an impact gun more than I use 'em with a ratchet.

It is nice to have a good set of Snap On or Mac bits for everyday use, and a set of these for when you're about to do something stupid; or to have these for backups when you're waiting for the Snap On truck to warranty your high-dollar bit.

I do NOT think these handle or feel as good as a bit that uses a body and bit insert.

The old man in our shop, who runs pretty much nothing but Snap On tools, owns ONLY Lisle torx bits, so I guess that says something about them too. I think these are a good gamble for what they cost.

I purchased these to replace an engine in a Volvo. The European cars are full of torx fittings so this kit was vital. The range of sizes covers most everything that a DIY or even professional mechanic would need. I would give it 5 stars but the only flaw is the somewhat not super strong metal in the tips of the tool. Specifically, I used the T55 socket to open bolts that hold on the flywheel to the engine. The bolts were locked in place due to the age of the car, heat/cold cycling, weather, etc. With a breaker bar I opened up all but 2 just fine. The 2 troublesome bolts were damaged in trying to remove them and required removal with an extractor kit. That is not the problem. The problem is that the T55 socket was also damaged. The lifted lip in the tip bent and distorted. The socket was not completely ruined but it is more prone to damage a good bolt in future use. The metal could be slightly stronger for these kinds of situations but in the vast majority of applications it should do just fine. I would say do not hesitate to buy this set.

As every Jeep driver knows, Chrysler is obsessed with using Torx screws, so when I got my Wrangler I couldn't take anything apart because EVERYTHING on a jeep is a torx head. I bought this set and have used the majority of the sizes multiple times and have no complaints. The black coating has start to scratch off on a few but I don't need black tools, I just need working one!

I needed a set of Torx bits to install a few accessories on my Harley. These came in a nice rubberized holder rail and I thought they would be just the ticket. I was sadly disappointed when the second screw I installed rounded the head off the T25 bit. I was using a torque wrench so I know I didn't over tighten it. I suspect that these had somehow missed the heat treatment. I call Amazon Customer Service and spoke with a very helpful agent who offered to refund my money or replace the item. I found another T25 bit so I chose to accept a refund and I returned the bit set. As always, Amazon handled my problem with a prompt and courteous resolution.

I have a set like this from Snap-On and the Lisle are of close to the same quality for 1/10 the price.

I'm not afraid to throw these in the impact for fear of breaking one (which is a big no-no with the Snap-On set)

Definitely a must have for working on modern automobiles, and at a good price.

These are fine for moderate, low torque, or home-owner use. If you have a stubborn Torx fastener, which requires some real muscle to remove, you will most likely snap one of these sockets off. I would guess that these sockets are made from poor (weak) material, use a poor heat treat (making them brittle) or both. The T27 snapped off the first time I had to 'really' use it.

If you are 'frugal' and just have to have a cheap solution, here you go... If, like me, you prefer to buy your tools once, you can pass on these. The Craftsman, Mac, Matco, or Snap-on sets are more expensive for good reason, AND carry a quality guarantee as a result. You really DO get what you pay for. (I needed a Torx socket on a Sunday and this was the only thing I could find.)

I do like the flexible plastic socket holder this set comes with, but that is this product's ONLY redeeming feature!

Why 2 stars, instead of 1? This set WILL work as advertised, right up until you have to put some real torque to them...

I cannot recommend these for purchase, and would not buy them again.

Where Torx exists, only a Torx bit will do. You don't need this every day, but on the day that you do need it, there is no substitute. Price is right, quality is good. If you do any mechanical work, even around the house, eventually you will need it and appreciate having the right size on hand.
