I bought these to change the timing belt on a 96 Toyota Avalon. It did help, but while removing one of the cam sprockets, it bent pretty badly, and I had to straighten it.

Then while holding the sprockets to torque them back on (they are only torqued to 60 ft-lbs), one of the bolts that holds the pins in broke off. I was surprised to learn that the tiny bolt is made of aluminum - far too weak for the tool's function. I had to extract the broken bolt, and weld the pins into the fingers.

I eventually got the job done, but I will have to build a stronger tool next time I change a timing belt. The whole reason I bought this tool is to save me the time of doing so.

Needless to say I'm quite disappointed.

Be aware you will have to modify this tool is you are using an AEM adjustable cam gear. If you bore out the slider around a half inch then this tool will do the trick. As a side note this tool actually will help you remove the clutch bell housing on a 50cc scooter.

Great tool. Would have liked it better if it had a longer handle. After purchasing this one, I noticed there is another brand that does have a longer handle. But, all-in-all, this tool saved the day for me.

Worked exactly as expected. Easy to use and durable. I used it to loosen and remove the cam sprockets from my 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. No damage to the sprockets, and no slippage when tightening or loosening.

Great tool bought for just in case reason, and have used it enough times to consider it paid for. Also every other mechanic I work with has needed It a time or two. The only reason its 4 stars and not 5 is i wish the handle was longer for better leverage but still a must have tool.

This product didnt last 5 minutes before one of the bolts that that is used to hold the Cam broke. had to go to plan B to get the job done. I was very disapointed since Lisle usually makes a quality product.

I purchased this tool months in advance of my project and it didn't survive one repair job. It's advertised for both positioning the cam and holding it while loosening. My cam gear bolts were factory tightened and still this short handle Lisle tool required a pipe on its end to offset force from my 24" breaker bar. The tool began to bend while loosening the first bolt, and broke in half on the second bolt. Lisle Customer Service Rep told me that the tool "was altered for use" by putting a pipe on it and they do not make a longer tool..... no warranty.

Could not get enough leverage to feel secure enough about not damaging the camshaft pulley or bolt in the process. Ended up using a wrench directly on the camshaft instead, as others have done on YouTube.
