I received this tool last week and have already used it twice to remove broken heater hose quick dis-connects from Chevy 5.7 engine manifolds with the manifolds still installed. It works flawlessly! In both cases, all I had to do was drive the splined bit in about halfway, then twist it out with 3/8" drive breaker bar and 12 point 5/8" socket...Once broken threaded piece was removed, I used the included tap with same breaker bar and socket to chase threads clean, then I installed new fitting...Tips on use: A. Use 6" long 3/8" drive extension and 5'8" socket to hammer black splined bit in about half way so you don't expand hole too much and break/crack manifold.....B. If splined bit starts to spin, just hammer it in a little more...In neither case did I need to use the included reverse pilot drill bit, but I'm certain it would have worked just as well.

I would give this tool set a 10 star if I could. This is the only tool to use to get broken couplers out. I tried for hours with a broken nipple remover then used the reverse bit and thread chaser had the broken part out and treads chased and new coupler installed in 5 . Not only is this the best tool set for the removal of broken heater hose couplers on GM engines but the only one to use could not work better. Don't waste your money on any other tool buy this one and problem solved. You will be happy with it too

Used this to fix a leaking heater hose quick connect fitting coming out of the crossover pipe on a 98 Chevy K1500 with a 6.5L T diesel engine. Fitting snapped off, tap in extractor tool did not because fitting was crumbling but the drill bit worked perfectly. Was able to drill it out and re-tap threads. Repaired with replacement nipple from Napa and a short piece of heater hose.

Ok look. I went an purchased JUST the "black" one as shown in this kit. All it did was break the busted connector into more pieces.
When I got this, kit with the Reverse cutting bit and the thread-chaser I was done in 30 minutes.

You MUST be careful and do it right.

After I used the cut bit down to the base (as the directions say!), I then used a 1/2 ratchet, with a 16mil socket and slowly ran the the thread chaser down, then back up, then down again until it rolled smooth in.

Cleaned the area and the new connector went in perfectly. Leak checked good. But yeah - 15 - 30 minutes.

This kit is to be used when the old connector is just too sealed in to use ONLY the black tool.

I would give this ten stars. My coupling was so corroded the ez out tool wouldn't work but the tool for the drill in reverse worked exactly as described. Then followed it with the tap and I was good to go.
