Be aware -- the product shown is not the same as what now ships -- it has been replaced by an inferior version (made in China) which does not perform as well as the original. The 6 different size gap rings around the tool have changed from the somewhat flat "U" shape to a sharper inverted "V" point which is harder to use & far less accurate -- and this tool is supposed to be all about accuracy. I know that companies switch to offshore manufacturing to cut costs & improve profit margins, but come on...this is a $3 item...or rather, it used to be...now it's more like a $1 item and not worth even that. Disappointing. Amazon should update their photo for this item to reflect the change.

If you want to gap spark plugs this is the kind of gapper you need for modern spark plugs. It contains 6 wire gap sizes that are labeled for both imperial and metric systems (one system on each side). The sizes include:

Imperial (in): .025, .030, .034, .035, .040 .045
Metric (mm): .64, .76, .86, .89, 1.02, 1.14

Unless mine was made wrong the sizes are for the wire on the opposite side of the circle, not the closest wire. So if you are reading the number its the wire facing you, not the one pointing away. It should be easy to find out which way it goes, since the bigger wires correspond, obviously, to bigger gap measurements. Seems to be built decently well and will get the job done. Has the tools on the side for adjusting gap.

I was trying to gap my NGK spark plugs to recommended specs (between .045 and .040), and what I found out was that the .045 gapper will fit before the .040 gapper can fit. very inaccurate, and would not recommend it to anyone.

This style of gap gauge is the correct tool for gapping your spark plugs. The attached ground strap adjusting tools on this gauge are a nice addition. The range of this particular gauge is good for most forced induction engines.

Do not rely on the cheap 99 cent coin-type ramped edge "tools" that you find at the counter of your local auto parts store. Not only is that an inaccurate method of measuring the gap, doing so most often damages the plugs before you have even installed them.

When I first got this gauge, I measured the wire width with a micrometer caliper just to make sure, and these are spot on. Way better than the ramp/disc gauges that you get at the auto shop for 99 cents. The wire gauge ensures you can measure a proper gap on both sides of the electrode -- ramp gauges often result in a crooked strap and/or damaged electrode. This gapper also has teeth that can be used to make safe and gentle adjustments to the strap without tapping or prying, which yields a smoother electrode and strap. It's worth it to spend the extra few bucks over a ramp gauge.

Works exactly as expected. These have been around for decades, so there's not much sense in explaining the features. If you are looking at this, you probably already know what it is, and what it does. The quality is good enough, I used it to gap my plugs last weekend. I wish there was a gauge for .028, but there isn't, so I just have to get in-between .025 and .030. Not a big deal, and probably an imperceptible difference to the car.

It's not a sophisticated tool. Gives you everything you need to gap a plug. Doesn't have the finest granularity of measurements, more wires to get more granular measures would be nice, but not the end of the world. Note - on iridium plugs, be careful, it's totally possible to contact/destroy the electrode gapping with one of these.

This is the correct gauge for spark plug gapping because it has adjustment notches. That is all, don't get any other gapper. There is a YouTube video on how to use these products, look it up and you'll be sold. I recommend a Buy because it's cheap and effective.
