While most of us might wonder why we need a book like this, every person can be active or passive listeners. A passive listener may not be in tune with what's being heard and treat the sermon like any other information they hear. But if the pastor is fulfilling his responsibility to Christ, leading through His word, teaching within the bounds of the Bible's meaning, then He is speaking with God's authority. And then the preacher needs to be far more than heard; but rather paid attention to.
We give these books as gifts to new church members. It's no light weight in content, yet not overwhelming. It's engaging and brief.
