Listen to Your Mother: Stand Up Straight: How Progressives Can Win Paperback – November 20, 2007

I believe this book should be a must-read for CONSERVATIVES/CONSTITUTIONALISTS. Creamer’s 628-page book is full of lies, misrepresentations, and distortions. It is also poorly edited. For example, he refers to Harold Washington, the late mayor of Chicago, as “Herald Washington,” and notes that our closest animal relatives are “guerrillas, chimpanzees and the baboons of Africa.” Nevertheless, Creamer’s book is an invaluable resource for constitutionalists.

Creamer has spent more than four decades in community organizing. His “first serious issue campaign involved pollution and the legendary community organizer Saul Alinsky.” He later joined Illinois Public Action, “the progressive coalition,” which he directed for many years. While at Illinois Public Action, Creamer met and married DSAer Jan Schakowsky. Schakowsky is currently a U.S. representative and a vice chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC). CPC is aligned with Democratic Socialists of America, which, in turn, is part of the Socialist International. The roots of the Socialist International go all the way back to Karl Marx.

The first few pages of Stand Up Straight! include words of praise from many individuals representing groups that make up the Socialist Coalition. These individuals include John Podesta of the Center for American Progress, Heather Booth and Jackie Kendall of the Midwest Academy, Wes Boyd of MoveOn.org, Chuck Loveless and John Cameron of AFSCME, Greg Gazzullo of the Gamaliel Foundation, Roger Hickey and Robert Borosage of the Campaign for America’s Future, David Axelrod, Jeff Blum and William McNary of USAction, CPC members Reps. Jim McGovern John Lewis, Andy Stern of SEIU, and Miles Rapoport of Demos.

The partial client list of Creamer’s firm, Strategic Consulting Group (SCG), reads like a who’s who of the Socialist Coalition. These clients include ACORN, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, Campaign for America's Future, Midwest Academy, Natural Resources Defense Council, SEIU, USAction, and United Steelworkers Union of America.

Creamer is also a partner with Democracy Partners. Other partners include Heather Booth and Jackie Kendall of the Midwest Academy, John Hennelly, who served for four years as the National Field Director for Politics for the SEIU (he also worked with Creamer at SCG prior to taking a position with the SEIU), Christine Pelosi, who is the daughter of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Joe Sandler, who served as general counsel of the 1996 Democratic National Convention and as outside counsel to the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Democratic National Conventions, and Mike Lux, who has been the CEO of his own consulting firm, Progressive Strategies, since its beginning in 1999. While serving with Iowa Citizen Action Network during the 1980s, Lux was a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

Given Creamer’s longtime association with the Socialist Coalition, Stand Up Straight! is essentially that coalition’s playbook. Read it to gain a better understanding of the socialists’ tactics and strategies, and then adopt and adapt tactics and strategies that constitutionalists can also use.

This book would have been very interesting to me during the 30+ years I was actively involved in political campaigns. At my age (68), I don't have enough energy left to put all the ideas and suggestions to work.

The goal of Creamer's book is to guide the "re-establishment of the dominance of progressive values" in America.
On pages 554-555, immigration reform is discussed as needed for illegal aliens so that they will work for higher wages and not continue to "drag down the wages of all workers across the board." Also he claims reform is good because it will keep families together in the USA.
Then Creamer's self-interest bursts into the open. He says that the "immigration battle [legalizing illegal aliens] is also important because it will have an enormous impact on the battle for power between the progressive and conservative forces in American Society." He emphasizes getting the illegal aliens on the path to citizenship so they will be eligible for "voting rights by 2012 and 2016."
Creamer then looks at the 30 million legal immigrants "who could apply for citizenship [and voting]." The end result: a "gigantic block of progressive voters - a block that could be decisive in the battle for the future."
The book can be of value to nearly anyone, right or left, new to politics, as it offers many strategies and guidance on successful political operations. The leftist / progressive goals may wear on some readers.
I must openly complain about the index. A book well over 600 pages needs a good index. I looked up "Charlie Wilson" in the Index and found the page referenced to be in the middle of the text of the MLK "I have a dream" speech. I never found the "Charlie Wilson" page. The pages on immigration reform are on 554-555 while the index says they are on pages 538-538, almost twenty pages off.
The book is inventive, engaging and broad-ranging. Credit must be given to the quiet contemplative months Creamer spent in prison writing it.

I thought it was going to be a book about helping my posture. Instead it was more relative to a book of sex positions, it teaches you how to F$@# people.

This is a MUST READ for any person interested in politics....
expecially TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party people.
You must learn how the Progressives plan to change our country....not for the better.
