Purchase options and add-ons
Big emotions can be overwhelming! Children need help to better understand and express what they feel.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2025This is a great book for teaching Pre-K students and students with developmental delays how to listen to their bodies and begin learning self-regulation. The language is simple and accessible, making it easy for young children to understand. It offers clear examples of physical cues and emotions, which helps kids make the connection between what they feel and how they can respond. It’s a valuable tool for social-emotional learning in both general and special education settings. I highly recommend it for teachers, therapists, and parents!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2025I read it last night to my kids, I thought the book was a great way for them to understand there body language and what there body needs ! The only problem was one page was stuck to the other at the top, the words are still readable.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023My therapist recommended this book for myself but to also read to my 3 year old. It's a little wordy for a 3 year old so I do skip some lines to keep his attention. During a tantrum it was a great resource to bring out and opened it up to the page about being upset and I do think it helped to show him what it looked like and to talk about how it feels. It taught my 3 year old more about his body and now he loves to point out to us every time he hears his heart. I love how it has you do examples like rubbing hands together for warmth or breathing techniques. I know it's helped me. My Dad read it to my kiddo and you remarked about what a good read it was so maybe he learned a thing or two!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024Will buy more from this author…. Bought it for my 4yr old grandson! Simple, practice exercises, covers alot!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2025I really like how the reader can follow along and do things to practice noticing sensations in his or her own body. As an elementary school counselor, students are happy to follow along when I read it to a class. I have the physical book, too. But, the first two pages in the physical book are not included in the Kindle version. I miss those. Otherwise it seems to be a match and is a helpful resource to teach about body sensations.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2019This is a useful tool for counselors. It's appearance suggests it's a story and the pictures are kid-friendly, but it's not a story. It is packed with all sorts of ideas and reasons why kids may feel stressed, sad, angry, and/or a whole range of emotions, and kids will find it helpful. Counselors will likely pick the situations in it that apply to individual children with their unique situations, or review just a few pages at a time. The author, a Licensed Professional Counselor, suggests many ways kids can deal with their feelings and emotions. Some will work, some won't, but she gives plenty of choices. She also touches on ways to introduce mindfulness; again, counselors' preference on which parts of the book they want to focus on. This book will be useful for special needs kids and all kids dealing with any sort of stressful situation and daily situations we all encounter, such as, feeling hungry, cold, nervous, feelings, excited, happy, sad, etc. Kids on the autism spectrum are sometimes overwhelmed by a multitude of sensations and this may help them to separate them and deal with them.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024Great book for supporting body awareness and connecting to our feelings and our sensory systems . Has great real life examples kids can try to help them understand concepts being taught .
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2019I absolutely love this book for teaching kids how to pay attention to their sensations and feelings and how those go together. There are little practices on just about each page so that kids can get into the experiential learning of this material. I've used this with kids from 3-12 in introducing them to the idea that they can regulate their emotions by paying attention to their bodies. My favorite part of this book is horse lips. It's a practice to help with anger and more than half of my kids will tell me that it's one of the things they remembered and practiced months later when our treatment is over. I work with kids with trauma and use this in the relaxation component of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I highly recommend this book to anyone working with kids in any capacity. All kids can benefit from learning mindfulness and understanding their sensations and feelings a little better.

prolific readerReviewed in Canada on July 20, 20225.0 out of 5 stars A good basic guide for children struggling with self control and emotions
I bought a number of children's books to read with one of my grandchildren (age 6) who suffers with being overwhelmed, having hurt feelings, reluctant to try new things in case of failure (being judged) and becoming out of control at times (too much stimulation?). Most of the books were too didactic (think Berenstain Bears) for my liking. This was my favourite of the books--we read it in sections, not all at one time. It seems to be useful in helping them get in touch with what is going on inside and making sense of their experience. Will read more than one time to help apply principles.

Loved the message in this book. I was looking for books for my children to help them understand feelings of anxiety or anger. This helped us have some great conversations in our house and helped the children understand their feelings a bit better.
