A masterpiece album!
Sharing the credits for the album, Vic Johnson demonstrates his worthiness to own a significant piece of the Hagar legacy. An accomplished guitarist in his own right, Vic bears the mantle of covering Ronnie Montrose, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani and others as his regular day job. It's great to hear him have a chance to put his own creativity at the forefront of this album.
The track list alone represents an impressive winnowing down of a 40+ year target rich environment. My one knock (costing a star), is that there are parts of the list that are a bit too safe. For example, acoustic releases already exist for Eagles Fly and Dreams. Recorded versions of One Sip, Finish What You Started, Father Sun, Sailin', and the second release of Halfway to Memphis were mostly acoustic already. While these versions are indeed stripped down with no discernable overdubs, they are all still pretty close to previously released versions.
Now this is probably a complaint that only someone with a complete Sammy collection might lodge, but that's probably also the biggest audience for this album.
For me, the real treats were The Love, Who Has the Right, Deeper Kind of Love (which he did for his solo on his last VH tour). I also did enjoy what is now the third treatment of Halfway to Memphis, this one adding accordion and very subtle percussion.Read more ›

Just an OK and boring album by Sammy. He has done much better. He seems particularly uninspired here. Maybe he just did it for the money.Published 1 month ago by Harold E. Naideau
This is a great acoustic release from the Red Rocker. This really is one of my favorite albums, I guess as I get older I get a little mellow. Read morePublished 2 months ago by Gnixon
