Editorial Reviews
Review
“Literary Witches successfully weaves together the personal, the political, and the heretical.”—Rivers Solomon, Afrofuturist and author of An Unkindness of Ghosts
“Literary Witches is at the same time enormously enjoyable, rich in information, and visually brilliant.”—Lisa Congdon, artist, illustrator and author
“Transformative, revivifying, gorgeous, unsettling, and intensely moving, this book is a volume of poetry, miniature encyclopedia, and twenty-first-century illuminated manuscript all at once. I'll treasure this book like a lucky object and return to it whenever I need courage, or mischief, or beauty, or permission.”—Jia Tolentino, New York Times bestselling author of Trick Mirror
“As necessary a project as I can imagine in this day and age, this is art, poetry and history marshaled together in tremendous, joyful celebration.”―Carmen Maria Machado, author of Her Body and Other Parties, writing for NPR’s Guide to Great Reads

What I like: the feel, the images, the price I got it at.
What I don't like: the canvas-like stock apparently picks up dirt pretty easily, also I didn't notice when I first bought it but the deck is very badly curved and it wasn't flat when I got it.
I still love this deck but if you get yours curved like mine return it for a new one! Amazon has a really easy return system and if you have prime you can return for free at kohls (i don't know if they do free returns without prime but it's still worth looking into if you get a curved deck and need to return it.)
Will enrich your traditional tarot readings for sure!

Will enrich your traditional tarot readings for sure!
A warning to those who are looking for something to give them concrete/robust definitions: the guidebook included, while helpful in some ways, offers only 3 words or phrases per card for meanings, then short biographies accompanying each writer. Much of the meanings will have to be deciphered for yourself, which may be disheartening for some. It was unexpected, but once I thought about the flexibility this offered me to incorporate my experience with the authors into the meanings, I was much less discouraged. It'll just take some extra time to get me up to speed! :)
Pros:
+ Gorgeous artwork capturing those "witchy" vibes
+ Larger than average-sized oracle & tarot cards
+ Box they come in is beautiful and sturdy
+ Great textures, will (most likely) shuffle well
Cons:
- Meanings booklet offers little robust guidance (which may not be a con for some)
The cards themselves are very nice heavy cardstock however mine came somewhat misshapen. They were very all very curved which made shuffling rather difficult.
But they feel wonderful and are beautifully textured and printed so I'm hopeful that I can put the cards under a heavy book and make them flat.
As for the guidebook it's very much like a standard oracle deck - it doesn't offer tons of insight it's more meant to get the ball rolling so you can figure out what you want the cards to mean for you.
My main disappointment has to be with the author cards. I loved the inclusion of international, POC and verbal storytellers but I wish more cards could have been included. Many women like Louis May Alcott or Marget Mitchell or perhaps Laura Ingles Wilder should have been included for their work which sent shock waves and broke a lot of glass ceilings in the world of literature.
Having a more even number of author cards to symbolize cards would also just have made readings more insightful and interesting.
I'm sure they were trying to do more a hybrid of tarot and do an almost major to minor arcana split between the two but it's just results in somewhat lack luster readings especially when reading for others with the current deck lacking in author cards.
Overall I still enjoy the deck greatly and I think that's a lovely lovely gift to gift. The quality is very high which I enjoy a lot.
But if they do a reprint I hope they include more authors.

If you are looking for decks for tarot readings at home or as a profession new, you won't like this deck because it doesn't have descriptions or much on the cards. You have to read the book always. Even in the book you will find a short story of characters on the card and if it is an article or animal you will find only a few words like: devotion, focus, inspiration etc. Not much described.
In summary you can read only If you are good psychic reader or at least if you have been reading for quite some time.
If you want to buy a deck with interesting pictures and clear advices: THIS IS NOT THE ONE FOR YOU.
I hope this helps!!!
