The illustrations are beautiful, however the narration is stilted and simplistic, and often reads like a collection of phrases rather than a cohesive story
Little bird is afraid of heights. The other birds make fun of him so he looks for new friends. Eventhough none of the other animals want to be his friend because he is different (a bird), he still comes to the rescue when he finds one in trouble.
The different lessons being taught are one of the reasons I gave this book 5 stars. It teaches that anyone can be a friend, no matter the perceived differences. That words can be hurtful even if you don't mean for them to be (think before you speak). And it teaches that if you overcome your fears, you can do anything. If you don't think about what's holding you back, you can move forward.
When I review children's books, I always read them to my grandsons. One is a kindergartener and the other a third grader. I love books that teach them kindness. They loved this book as well.
I loved this book. It is a great story book for young ones and a nice book for beginning readers. Little Bird is afraid of heights so he is afraid to fly. He keeps looking for another animal friend and feels very lonely. He comes across Kiwi Bird who cannot fly and is stuck in a hole. Suddenly Little Bird knows that he has to come to the rescue. He starts running to find the animals he met in order to save the Kiwi because he is too small and weak. He finally realizes he must fly to go faster. He starts to fly and loves it. He comes back to find all of the animals saving the Kiwi. The Kiwi tells Little Bird he is brave and strong.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
