This is a poorly built unit and doesn't last. The long threaded center piece is way too fragile to hold up under even light usage. Had to toss it in less than a month.

When I received this product, it was missing the red feeder tray part (as some of the other reviewers have mentioned). I was annoyed, but thought it was a simple mistake. I logged back on Amazon to check and make sure that I didn't accidentally order an "add-on" item. I had ordered the correct item so I used Amazon's easy return process, noted what part it was missing parts in the comment section, and requested a replacement (vs. a refund). I couldn't believe it when I got the new package a few days later, and low and behold, the red feeder tray was missing from this one as well. Unfortunate because it was at a good price, but my time and money would have been better spent purchasing this from my local feed store. I assumed that if products were listed with Amazon Prime, it ensure that they were reputable sellers, but I guess I was wrong. This seller definitely needs to be flagged by Amazon seeing as how I am not the only one who had this problem.

This feeder is made very poorly. I bought it because I have the larger feeder from
this company and it's very sturdy.

Ordered 2 two of these rather than getting 1 larger. Today when I walked by the coop I noticed the white cylinder and red bottom were laying on the ground about a foot apart. There is a tiny...tiny nut about the size of a medium size bead that threads on from the bottom of the feeder that had come off. It was/or probably will be eaten by the chickens. Went to local feed store for the larger 11 pound size, didn't have time to wait for shipping. It has a normal size wing nut on one end and normal size nut at the other end. Larger size is basically open at the top. Stopped at local 99cent store on way home to get a Frisbee. Cut a small slot in the middle so it now has a removable lid. I am sure the hens will enjoy sponge Bob on top of the feeder too.

I studied all sorts of plans to make my own feeder but for the price of this one it really didn't make sense to use the DIY approach. The simple design works even if the food in the tray gets a little wet. There is very little wastage from the birds "billing out" food. I am happy, as are my brahmas!
Isn't it amazing what you can find on Amazon!

does not come with a bottom!!! It is a good thing I had an extra bottom or else this would have been a waste of money!

This feeder may be inexpensive, but even so it is not worth the cost. As others have noted, the center rod that holds the bottom to the top, and is used to hang the feeder, is flimsy. Because the wire is so thin, the nut on the bottom is tiny causing the weight of the feeder, and any birds that might be perched on it, to be concentrated on a too-small area.

Even though there is a bit of a lip around the inside top of the base it it easy for the chicks to scatter the feed resulting in a high rate of waste. If there were spokes projecting from the hopper like some of the other feeders I think it would greatly reduce the amount of waste. As a result of the waste, this feeder goes empty every day even though it is currently being used by only 10 chicks that are 4 weeks old.

The feeder is filled through the top, but a plastic piece going from side to side is so wide that it makes it relatively difficult to scoop feed into the openings.

To keep chicks from sitting on top of this I inverted a plastic funnel on the top and have it suspended in the coop. I tried using it set on a board to raise it above the height of the litter in the coop, but found that the waste is even greater when it is not hanging freely. But when suspended I found that the chicks seem to spin it enough that the bottom nut loosens and I need to re-tighten it every time I refill the feeder.

This manufacturer has some good quality feeders in larger sizes, so I expected better of this.

The feeder came with missing parts. We found nuts and bolts to fix it so it works fine now. It's a little hard to fill without spilling due to the split top.
