Review

“The Bible says to ‘be still and know God’–a challenge in our harried culture..  This book will help you achieve relational wellness with God, your spouse, and your children.”
Don M. “Bubba” Cathy, Sr. Vice President, Chick-fil-A, Inc.

“Like learning to breathe, blink, or swallow, we assume we’ll automatically know how to rest. But in the rush of today’s world, what was once an automatic response is now an acquired behavior. Tim Kimmel teaches us how to rest…and, therefore, how to live.”
- Elisa Morgan, MOPS International

Hurry and busyness are everyday parts of modern life. True priorities of things that matter most may be lost. Little House on the Freeway offers biblical insights and principles to our hurried existence–help from the Word of God for the life being lived in the fast lane.”
- Billy Graham

“Once again, Tim Kimmel has stayed away from the typical mantras offered by ‘family experts’ and given us a fresh, relevant message for parents and families.”
- Cliff Young, lead singer of Caedmon’s Call

Little House on the Freeway is a book that runs over all our excuses about life-bustling, driving home our need for balance and peace.”
- Patsy Clairmont, author of I Second That Emotion

“I am thrilled that Tim Kimmel is re-releasing this updated classic. Little House on the Freeway will profoundly impact your priorities for marriage and family and have an enduring influence on you and your legacy.
- Dr. Crawford W. Loritts, Jr., Senior Pastor, Fellowship Bible Church

“If you’re looking for an antidote to family stress and strain–look no further. For those who want to steer clear of unhealthy stress and towards family closeness, this book is ‘must-read’ material.”
- John Trent, Ph. D.

“If you feel that your family’s schedule is out of control and going way too fast, then you need Tim Kimmel’s wisdom. If you feel that you’re doing just fine, then you may desperately need this book.”
- Steve Farrar, Point Man Leadership Ministries

“In a warm and, at times, humorous style Kimmel offers sound, practical counsel on how to restore calmness and rest to marriage, family life, workplace, and relationship with God.”

Hurry up and wait! The theme for our world. Everyone seems to be so intensely busy. Never enough time for the real things we want to do.
This book will help. It won't be cure-all. But it is great start.
God wants His children to have rest, rest for our bodies, souls and minds. Rest from anxiety, etc., so at the heart is our rest in Christ.
From this, Kimmel proceeds to apply it to relationships, work, children, suffering, forgiveness, etc.
Fun read, but so relevant and applicable.

This book addresses the vast majority of American families today that are rushed, rushed and rushed some more. With parents and kids alike trying to cram more and more activities into an already-crowded schedule, this volume is a God-send. The message that families should focus on the eternal rather than the temporal is communicated in relevant and realistic ways.
If you don't have time to read a book on this subject, then you need to TAKE the time! This title is well-worth the small investment of money and time required for the reading.

"Little House On The Freeway" by Tim Kimmel is a great read for anyone needing encouragement in having a godly family environment in today's fast-paced and often ungodly world.

The book is around 230 pages, may be completed in a few sittings, has an excellent writing style, and contains such topics as:

1. Busyness often robs us of quality relationships.
2. Live your life within the boundaries of God's Word.
3. Viewed against the backdrop of eternity, people are more important than things.
4. Accepting suffering as part of life and serving others will help you better deal with suffering.
5. Disciplining your desires will lead to rest and peace.
6. When pursuing dreams, make sure you are pursuing legitimate goals and making sure we are making the most of where we are.
7. Being a good steward of your strengths will help you live securely in an insecure world.
8. Marriages will win the challenge of hurried living by facing the challenge head-on.
9. 2 main priorities of parents are: preparating children ready to live as independent adults and protecting them from unhealthy cultural pressures.
10. Courage, not success, is required to enjoy rest in our work. 4 work areas you need to apply courage in to enjoy rest.

I will often refer to the book for encouragement and as a reminder to live to please God and not our hurried, empty, and insecure world.

Highly recommended.

I bought this book at a marriage conference with the hope that it would provide some ideas for slowing down the busyness of a dual-career, three-child household. To my surprise, it offers much more that that. It guided me to think through my strengths, calling, convictions and relationships in every part of my life.

Pursuing success as a goal had left me disappointed, disillusioned, dissatisfied and disenfranchised. I had measured my significance by others' opinions, expectations and accomplishments. I was weary and worn out. Tim Kimmel's call to forgiveness, repentance and gratitude has brought renewal - and rest! Rest is not only a gift or a commandment, it is also a choice, based on an attitude of truth rooted in faith.

A good discussion of the negative impact of busyness on our lives. Some good suggestions about how to distinguish what is important in living a full life.

If you like reading about simpler times you might like "for Mischief done"

If you are looking for a Christian romantic comedy, you will like Cafenova (Clairmont Series)

This book is a must for families that are doing too much. We pass this on to others as we know too many families that are not living simple lives. This book is a must for all families in this day and age, especially if they have school age children.
