About the Author
Emily Greenwood worked for a number of years as a writer, crafting newsletters and fundraising brochures, but she far prefers writing playful love stories set in Regency England, and she thinks romance is the chocolate-and in some exquisite cases, the wine-of literature. A Golden Heart finalist, she lives with her husband and their two daughters in Kensington, Maryland.

The beginning of the novel was romantic comedy at its best: from the heroine's tumbling into a stream when she first met the hero to her outrageous antics aimed at getting him to leave the manor. The hero was easy to like - he's dashing, honorable, and all but missing his shining armor - so effortlessly does he take up a role of her knight.
The heroine is another story entirely: I don't think I warmed up to her until the end. As ingenious as she is, in her naivete she doesn't realize that her pranks won't get her manor back, but might have irreversible consequences. Which they do, and the chain of events that follows changed the tone of the book. Angst that replaced humor, to me, felt contrived and out of place.
Later on, as the hero and heroine were working out their issues, there were a few moments, which hinted back at the lighter tone of the opening scenes. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention their talk through the door, which got quite steamy toward the ending. But touching as their final reconciliation was, I found that I was missing the humor that made the beginning of the story such an entertaining read.
