About the Author
Born in Savannah, GA, Newman grew up in and around some of the most beautiful sites and important places in Georgia's history. But as a young person he failed to realize the cultural value of this rich heritage and moved north to become a factory worker. Of course, Newman eventually came to appreciate his hometown, along with the often tumultuous past of the Southeastern and Coastal regions of Georgia. He became especially attuned to Savannah's history and lore, fascinated by how much the area's past had influenced his life. Returning to Savannah in June 1993 to finish his BA-English at Armstrong Atlantic State University (2001), he also completed his Master of Education--Adult Education (Technology) (2005) at AASU. After working as a social worker (advocating and overseeing services for developmentally disabled communities) for a number of years, he went on to become a part-time instructor of Developmental and Entry-level English at Savannah Technical College and continues to offer personal tutoring/learning support services on a one-to-one basis. Before devoting himself full-time to his writing, Newman conducted trolley tours in Historic Savannah, informing visitors and guests all about the captivating city. Besides teaching and conducting trolley tours, Newman notes that some of his most fun and memorable experiences have been facilitating journal writing workshops at an assisted living community. He says that he is now tremendously enjoying semi-retirement (with his wife & family) and making the most of it by tending to a number of writing projects which he had delayed far too long (while focusing on his education and other work).
