Top customer reviews
1) a person returned the book and said they were upset that the princess was white, and that the servant was black. This book is a depiction of the classic story Little Princess written by Frances Hodgson Burnett in 1905. In the book the "princess" (spoiler: she's not a princess, her father calls her that as a nickname) is white. And the servant? You guessed it, she's black. In the end of the book the "princess" Sara Crewe is also a servant but remains hopeful and kind to all. Sara's father is an army officer and has investments which provide him with wealth. Historically, there were zero wealthy black families in England (where the story is based) in 1905. The story emphasizes on that, despite Sara's privilege, she is not arrogant or snobbish, but kind and compassionate. It's generally odd to be angry that historically there were no rich black families in 20th century England. There just weren't.
2) someone complained that the book was just a picture with a single word like "friend" below it. The book is a primer for toddlers. "A primer about friendship". It uses key words and pictures so it's easy for a small child to put those words into actions.
