Jade is an orphan; at the age of 10, she lost both her parents in a horrific accident. Her guardian, Henry, is elderly and in failing health. Despite it all, Jade is happy in his care. Almost 21, she is looking forward to the future. But the future arrives, and Jade is woefully unprepared.
Henry expires unexpectedly, and Jade is now under the dubious care of Don. For weeks Don ignores Jade, barely acknowledging her existence; until one night….
Jaxon arrives like a hurricane, tossing Jade up and completely destroying the life she has known up to this point. He’s a force of nature; his will is law. Desperate to understand, Jade struggles with the new reality she is now living. A prisoner in Jaxon’s home, Jade seeks knowledge: about Jaxon, about herself, and about what happened to her parents, so long ago…
“Oh, but you are. You’re my puppet. I pull the strings. I make you dance when I want you to. I can make you fly if the mood is right. You are my puppet to play with as I choose.”
Jade is terrified to discover she is about to be auctioned off like a piece of livestock. No, not even that… more like an object that someone else will own, will have life and death control of; her, a poor orphan, who hasn’t had anyone in her life she could hold, confide in, love, since the age of 10. She meets Jaxon’s brother, Bryce, but is wary of him as well. Who can she trust? But Jaxon; oh Jaxon…. She finds herself drawn to him, despite all her efforts to resist.
I point to the broken vase on the floor before I scream, “That’s all I am. Original? No. I’m a million tiny pieces…. One that can’t be made whole again. That vase is me.”
Jaxon draws Jade; she feels safe with him. He warns her to trust no one, but still…. Revelations and shocks, swindles and swaps, Jade discovers many things about her past that threaten to overwhelm her. But Jaxon is there…..
And just like always, he pulls my strings. My monster was never truly a monster. He was a man that was ruined much like I was. He was thrown into a world that wouldn’t let him thrive without the use of darkness.
Intense, dark, gritty and graphic, Little Puppet captures your imagination from the first sentence, and doesn’t let go. It’s a peek into a different world, one most people are oblivious to. Throughout it all, Jade strives to be strong, to beat the beast of terror and fear, and to win the life she was meant to have; with the man she loves.
The chemistry between Jax and Jade was forced. The sex scenes lacked luster. Jade's behavior was too adolescent. What was with the puppeteering and little puppet nonsense? Jax was as frightening as a puppy. However, I decided to give this book two stars because I finished the book, but I don't think I will read another from this author.
If you're ready for some mind games you've got to read this book!!
I really don't know how to write this review other than saying if you like mind games you need to one click this now!! I can't say much without giving anything away but I can say that if this book could get more than 5 stars I would give it a 10!!! I sat down to read this, this morning and couldn't put it down until it was finished!! I consider this one of the best I've read this year, and I read a new book every 2-3 days!!
You have a woman who was grown up into lies and deceit. She is taken away by sex on legs, Jaxson. Jaxson is this rich man whom is trying to save Jade. The rollercoaster they go on will have you gasping and wanting to yell at the author. Damn you Bryce.
Awesome must read.
