There are stories with solid beginnings, middles and ends, and stories which leave you hanging, half-knowing, half-guessing and half-afraid. There's a story, "The Pool Room" by Patricia Morin, told almost entirely in phone messages, which works incredibly well---so very different, and so very intriguing. And the final story, "Keeping the Peace" by Loretta Scott Miller, is a lovely depiction of small town life and people and mystery, with a feel of Agatha Christie in its satisfying conclusion.
I guess the piece that will stay with me longest is "A Criminal Mind" by Shelley Houlihan. That one really got under my skin. Creepy, and so very very real... Well, you'd have to read it.
Or better still, read them all.
