From the Author
Discordia Jones missed it.
Struck down at that same instant like a cut-rate Cinderella/Sleeping Beauty mash up, she awakened three years later to a far stranger life, and saddled with psychic abilities.
Working as a private investigator for Arcane Solutions only brings on more strangeness.
At least there aren't talking mice...

The author has written Cordi's personality like "broken glass", scattered all over the place. Cordi has emotional issues enough for 3-4 people of very diverse backgrounds -- she comes from a very supportive family and, though she was often teased before her 8 years of "coma", she's had years to stabilize along with very serious job responsibilities. At times, and given her emotional issues, it's difficult to take her seriously as a "P.I.".
This book, though it does draw in another group of "supernatural criminals", provides less than a short story of actual "crime solving". As a reader far beyond my "mid-teens", I'm more interested in the crime solving, Cordi's powers (and her control), the gods she's descended from (and those in opposition), the various supernaturals and how they interact, etc than Cordi's multiple teen angsts.
I am so glad I picked the series back up. I will be buying the next book when it comes out as well. I think a lot of my problem was how young the main heroine felt at first for her age of 23. The good news is you see a lot of growth in her as the series progresses.
You also fall in love with her friends as you see more and more of who and what they are. All in all it is a solid series and other than the first one I had no problems with any of the rest of the installments or the storyline as a whole. I will say I like Logan and I am so glad he took over as the love interest.
This time PI and psychic Discordia Jones is called in by the police to help with nightly horrible murders and theft of magical items. Who or even what is the question and touching the bodies brings about a serious backlash on Cordi of what the victims experienced.
Besides the mystery and horror there are the various relationships with secondary characters, humor, the dogs, some new situations and her relationship with Logan moves forward. One new situation appears to carry forward into at least the next book as we have yet to discover a reason it was brought about as well as how it will change her life.
This story would be somewhat difficult to follow if you haven’t read the prior books.
Along the way some good things happen with Logan, and herself. She starts to come to terms with who she is now, and what must be done.
This was a great addition to this series! I really adored this book. I love how Logan and Cordi started acting around each other. And I also really enjoyed how she changed some in this one. She was ready to face everything head on and it made her much more likable.
I cannot wait for more now!

But don't let that fool you into thinking that this is some cosy little mystery. The magic is still sharp and we are always left wondering a little at Cordi herself. Sal makes an appearance and as ever manages to create more questions than answers. There is also one of the most gruesome murder scenes I have ever read. Warning - read on an empty stomach! The story as ever was gripping, Cordi and her friends were completely engaging and Logan was even more delightful than ever. The only bad part about this book was turning the last page. A must read.
