The set up was so easy that my 17 year old son put it together while we were out buying the sand. He did say that he used a screw gun to put the eyes on, rather than a screw driver, since it was hard to do with the screw driver because the holes were not pre-drilled. But it was fast and easy, and his 7 year old sister helped him place the stickers, which made the assembly fun for her too. The design was very cute and appealing for our children when it was all set up.
I read other reviews on this product which stated that it can hold more than the 350 pounds listed on the box, so we decided to try 400 pounds of play sand and it fit great. The kids were trying to jump in immediately after we started pouring the bags in, they were so excited. When we got it all filled, four of our kids, ages 10, 7, 4 and 2 immediately moved in to start playing in the sand. The sand box held up great to all of them jumping in there and running their hands through it. Size-wise, 2-3 small children can sit in there very comfortably. There's even a bench, designed as the seat of a car, for those who don't want to sit directly on the sand. It even has two impressions for cup holders.
The lid fits on top just fine and was easy for the kids to replace themselves. It's not a tight fit, and I have read that it's not rain-proof, but I'm sure it would keep the majority of the rain out. I'm unsure whether or not the lid would stay on during a strong wind, without being weighted down.
I would definitely recommend this product! It has a great capacity, seems durable, has a lid, is a great design and provides hours of play for those kids who like to get their hands dirty.
UPDATE: We recently got several days of VERY heavy rain. We have the sandbox out in our playground with no shelter, so based on another review I saw, and after talking to a neighbor who has the Turtle sandbox which filled up with water, I was really worried about the mess we were going to find under the lid when the rain stopped. We did put a block of wood over the top to stop the lid from blowing away (because we get VERY strong winds here that literally take the shingles off our roof every year and send our neighbors' trampolines rolling down the streets). I took the block of wood off, lifted off the lid and the sand was very near to being perfectly dry. There was only one slightly damp spot (we're talking barely noticeable), which may have been caused by the humidity of the constantly changing temperature in between rain storms.
Also, my friend bought the turtle sand box and it wasn't as large as our sand box and the lid is the same thickness as the lid on ours and fits the same way. So don't let the lid be the deciding factor for you. They seem to be the same as far as that goes.
So I have to say, I'm still very happy with our sandbox!
