I really thought this one through. My son loves to put stuff into trunk compartments, so I hesitated to get the trailer, but I thought he would love having a place to put more things. It was down to this and the jeep. Well, the trailer is rarely used and he shoves all that he can into the cup holders as if it were a trunk. I now regret not buying the cozy jeep for this reason. Maybe it's an individual preference, but all the kids that have been here and played with the car do the exact same thing with the "trunk".
The car was very easy to assemble, unlike some reviews I'd read. This is a fun toy to have around the house and yard. It's a big hit with all the kids that we have over. The trailer is not easily attachable/removable by a child, and my son gets frustrated if the trailer gets stuck to the side. The trailer spends most days in the toy box.
Overall this is a great product, I just wish I'd gotten the truck now.
I thought I'd share my experience.
Immediately after installing the trailer, I ran into issues. It was either not going to work well at all or at very least, was going to be a pain to remove and put back on.
So, I modified it. Couldn't be happier with the result. The trailer stays attached, moves freely and is easy to change in and out. I may have to further modify it with a keeper pin, but for my 2 yr old daughter, it's perfect.
On the trailer hitch, use a Dremel, knife, saw or as in my case, a brand new razor blade to cut the two side locking tabs. If you're holding the trailer hitch upright, it's the one at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. Leave the tab at 12 o'clock to keep the hitch attached once inserted. But you only need the 1.
Plan to spend some time putting it together. It takes a little while and you have to hammer metal, so don't plan to set it up at night as a surprise the next morning unless you have a great little sleeper or can set it up in the garage or something.
The trailer is great. It's a little smaller than I expected, but we like it just the same.
At any rate, I would recommend this car. I know we will have many great years of play with it.
It was a birthday gift and delivered 1000 miles away. So... I didn't have time to contact Little Tikes to have corrected.
