"Just put a big red stamp on my forehead. 'Samantha West: Failure at life.' Washed up at twenty-one."

So, I'm going to be honest, I really didn't like Samantha when we were first introduced to her in A Little Too Far. I found her to be very self-centered. (Now there's a chance I only felt this way because I thought she was sleeping with Trent and, damn it, he belonged with Lexi... but still.) She just didn't ever impress me as a good friend. Now, I can honestly say, I kinda love her. Turns out all I needed was to hear her backstory. Her life hadn't been easy. Her family didn't do much to support her. I really did feel bad for her. She wound up working at a shady strip club and as it turns out, things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

"I could almost forget the rest of the world exists when I'm in here with you."

Enter Harrison Yates, a mysterious customer at the club. They have an immediate, intense chemistry and find themselves getting to know each other more during "private room" sessions... and no, not THAT kind of private room sessions. They talk. They learn about each other. Ok, and there may be *some* touching... But, Harrison has baggage and secrets and the story takes a very surprising turn... and keeps twisting and turning for the duration.

I mean, wow. This book. I was more than a little shocked at the first twist. I didn't see it coming a mile away. The events that occur as a result of that particular twist did, literally, keep me on the edge of my seat for several scenes later in the book. Mix that with Lisa Desrochers' knack for sexual tension and steamy love scenes and I literally could not ask for more.

While this technically can be read as a standalone, I don't recommend it. Not because you'll be completely lost, because you won't, but because you'll be missing out on a lot. Seriously, the first book, A Little Too Far, was absolutely amazing while A Little Too Much wasn't as good, it was entertaining enough. I was a little skeptical going in to this book because of my disappointment with the second book but I am here to tell you, this book was almost as good as the first one. Almost.

I hated Sam in the first book. She got on my nerves and on more than one occasion I wanted to hit her. So when I found out she was getting her own book I was devastated. This is the main reason why coming in to this book I was skeptical. How could I enjoy a book with a girl I couldn't stand two books ago? I didn't see it ending well . . .

Sam's life is a wreck. From the heartbreaking break up with her latest boyfriend, the betrayal of her best friend and to top all that off, she's been fired from her most current job. She was kicked out of her parents house after she was kicked out of school. Her life is falling a part, one thing at a time. When people are desperate, they end up doing things they regret. What's she probably regret? Dancing at a gentleman's club where her life took a new turn for the worst. If you think that's as bad as it gets, you haven't read anything yet . . .

Harrison, whose the love interest in this book, was introduced to us on Sam's first night dancing and every night she worked I looked forward to seeing him as much as she did. He was mysterious, he was broken, he was sexy and he got Sam's blood pumping. It's been awhile since a guy has had that effect on her and it was just so genuine.

Sam West's life is on the rocks. Her college career was a bust, her family washed their hands of her, she was recently dumped by the guy she's been in love with for over five years, and now she's unemployed. She's needs to find work, and she needs to find it yesterday. Fortunately, her best friend Jonathan knows of a gentleman's club looking for a new dancer, and while it isn't exactly Sam's dream job, beggars can't be choosers and at this point, any job is better than none. Pride be damned - a girl's gotta eat and pay rent. All Sam has to do is put on a good show, follow the club's strict "clothes on/hands off" policy, and collect her money. Should be easy enough - or it would be, if it weren't for Harrison Yates, one of the club's clients. Almost from the moment Sam lays eyes on him, she is hit with a tsunami-sized wave of desire that turns her knees to jelly and makes her want to chuck the rule book right out the window.

That's how A Little Too Hot starts, and for the first 26% of it, it seems like just another new adult romance, the kind we've all read before. Girl meets guy, both feel an immediate attraction, and the only question is, how long will it take them to work through their issues and get together? And to a degree, that is what the book is about, but it is so much more than that! There is a huge, knock-you-for-loop surprise 27% of the way in, and it changes the entire tone and feel of the story, in the most brilliant and best of ways. Once I got over the initial shock, I was positively giddy with delight. I love it when an author yanks the rug out from under me and takes the book in a direction I didn't expect it to go.

The story is told entirely from Sam's POV.
