"Just like in Shakespeare, when you fall head over heels in love with someone you don't even know, it's never going to end well. Love killed Juliet when she was thirteen. I made it all the way to fourteen before it nearly killed me."

Hilary McIntyre is twenty-two and living in New York City with her boyfriend. She's trying desperately to make it big as an actress. She's also trying to forget her past. It's working pretty well until her past shows up on her doorstep. Literally. Alessandro Moretti has traveled to New York to see firsthand how Hilary is. He never meant for her to know he was there, but fate intervenes and they're face-to-face for the first time in eight years.

"I want to see him as uncomfortable as he makes me. I want to see him squirm. And I definitely know how to make men squirm."

To say Hilary and Alessandro have a complicated past would be a ginormous understatement. They had very strong feelings for one another once upon a time, but their time together back then didn't end well. They're both damaged and broken, but for very different reasons. Hilary never quite got over the fact that Alessandro disappeared from her life all those years ago. Alessandro feels guilt for leaving her - and about other things that happened when they were at the foster home together. He feels remorse over the death of his brother, Lorenzo, who was ... well, not a very nice guy. He worked over both Hilary and Alessandro in the past. But, he's gone now and Alessandro is trying to ease his guilt.

"You meant something to me, Hilary. You were important to me once. I just needed to know you were okay. I needed to see for myself." He shakes his head. "You were never supposed to know I was here."

I liked Alessandro in A Little Too Far. A lot.

I was crazy about A Little Too Far (book 1)--I loved everything about it and I thought A Little Too Much couldn't possible top it. I was wrong.

A Little Too Much is equally just as good, or better even.

I may just like it a bit more than A Little Too Far and the reason why is Hilary. She is a complicated character, a force to be reckoned with, kind of a bad-ass and she just filled the pages with her personality. Hilary is the opposite of Lexie, who's was such sweetheart and someone I could picture being friends with but I think I'd be too intimidated by Hilary if I met her. But she grew on me the more I got to know her. She's led a hard life and had to grow up quickly but beneath her bad-ass-ness lies a vulnerable middle.

I felt that first and foremost A Little Too Much is Hilary's story more than anything else. Not hers and Alessandro and their road to happily ever after but hers. Hilary coming to terms with her past, with Alessandro and what happened between them, with her mother, her sister and with her life in the present. It was Hilary's coming of age story and the romance wasn't the main focus of the story (it was a big part of the story but it wasn't the main focus) and I really liked that.

Of course I cannot write this review without mentioning Alessandro. We met him in A Little Too Far and he was the almost-priest that Lexie formed a deep connection with. He was sexy then but kind of aloof, which was okay because I rooted for Trent to end up with Lexie. In A Little Too Much Alessandro is just as sexy but he's more open and wonderful and romantic (especially towards the end) and I melted because he's just so darn sweet.

*Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*

I loved the first installment in this series, A Little Too Far, but A Little Too Much was even better. In the last book we got to know Alessandro Moretti the, now former, priest-in-training. Riddled with guilt from his difficult past, he'd turned to the cloth to atone for his sins. Then he met Lexie and everything changed. With his previous path upended, Alessandro's now on a quest to confront his past ghost and determine what's next for him. One of which is Hilary McIntyre; his first. Years ago, when they were both just kids in a group home, he and his brother hurt her in very different ways.

Now 8 years later, Hilary is navigating through life the best she can, living in New York and trying to make it on Broadway. She's got her life together (more or less), but the effects of her childhood are never far below the surface. And Alessandro's return is guaranteed to bring them out. But neither can deny old feelings for long.

Prepare to really meet Alessandro Moretti without the looming priesthood. I couldn't help but fall for him in the last book, and he wasn't even trying then. He's still ridiculously sexy, and now not-as-forbidden. This is where how awesome he is gets cemented forever and luckily, this time, it happens with the right girl. His guilt still plagues him, but the tortured soul thing really works for him.

And Hilary matches him in every way in the difficult-past department. That was the aspect that put this book above the first for me. Both Alessandro and Hilary have extremely rich back stories, even beyond their childhood romance that are impossible not to get absorbed into. It was the first time in a long time that the "big reveal" in an NA novel was just that for me.
