I never finish books as I just lose interest too quickly. I finished this one though. This book will make you laugh and it will make you cry. The song lyrics in the beginning and end of ever chapter were just a special added touch. The author writes about a few really tough years of his life and how he got through it. The key is being able to forgive yourself. Overall, I thought it was very inspiring.
Where do I start? This memoir is both brutal and beautiful of a personal reflection I've read. At times, the raw emotion of the book made me cringe with the pain Chris was experiencing, or laughing to the point of pure exhaustion. Behind the voice of "The Classic Metal Show" is an inspirational story where Chris' honesty is in contrast with mainstream audiences. The book cover photos are a great representation of what the reader could expect. Chris will definitely motivate you!
This book may come to many as a surprise, especially for those who know Chris Akin only as the abrupt and controversial heavy metal shock jock on The Classic Metal Show (TheClassicMetalShow.com). In his first book writing Mr. Akin gives the readers a surprisingly honest yet stern look into his unfeigned yet barbaric life-style. Whether you love Chris Akin or despise the man, there's no denying that this man has has fought many challenging battles and you gotta respect the man for writing a such an upstanding book that truly delves into the mindset of the badass bully known Chris Akin. Not only will this book enlighten you about the REAL Chris Akin, but it may very well enlighten you about real life and true happiness.
As someone who has also experienced divorce and catastrophic family feuds, I related immediately. Chris has a way of putting you in the moment without being overly wordy or dramatic. There were several chapters where I found myself replying out loud to situations and shedding tears from a place of true empathy and compassion. I am very proud to say that I am one of the CLASSIC METAL SHOW masses and reading this took me back to some of those "brutal" shows he discusses in the book. It makes me sad to think that we were laughing while he was in so much pain, but that's the dedication and professionalism that he never fails to demonstrate. This is such an engrossing and easy read, I made it from page 50 to the end in a single 4-hour session, I just couldn't put it down. So proud of you Chris, you tapped into a level of courage, openness, and self-assessment that most of us would never dare to try. I wish you nothing but happiness and success!

WOW....Where to begin? Firstly, I started this book early this morning...and have just finished it. I NEVER read a whole book in one sitting, but "Little Victories" was an intense emotional experience, for me...the reader, and I could not put it down. The book is smoothly written and flows extremely well. It is not an "easy" read as the intense realities described within are very, very strong and sometimes uncomfortable. I am sure most adult readers of this book can relate in some way to Mr Akins tale. Whether its love, love lost, family alienation, finding oneself, depression, addictions whatever...we all have experienced some part of those human experiences. But I have to give cudos to Mr Akin for having the guts to tell his story...warts and all. He could easily have made himself out to be the dragon slaying hero...but thats not the way he is. Chris Akin comes across as a ruthlessly honest individual who through friends and luck found his way through his seemingly shattered life to start to achieve the sanity and peace that he wants...but on his terms. He succeeds in this telling of his story. The emotions and experiences he leads us through are very real and ultimately believable. Its an honest story told with clarity and understanding. This book could probably be considered a self-help type of book, but to me its way more than that. Its a story of one mans life...and all the other lives (friends-family) entangled within it that help to make his life worthwhile and strong......and ultimately everyones life is enriched. A great book Mr Akins...I look forward to more from you.
This book is incredibly well written. You will not want to put it down. The story grips you and is very in depth. The fact that it is written by a radio host also makes it more interesting...at least to me. I highly recommend this book.
