The author ably portrays the cruelty and casual attitude toward violence and murder that accompanies the illegal drug trade. I was particularly impressed with the author's attention to the business and techniques of personal security.
But, what makes this story unique is the way the author incorporates his love and knowledge of the Paso Fino horse breed. Overgaard brings to life the places and events where this horse is bred and celebrated, and makes them integral to the plot and fabric of the story. The horses present a wonderful entrée into some of the most beautiful environs of Columbia. The Columbian horse show is one of the most vibrant crowd events brought to life in the story.
As a first effort and a self-published one at that, there are elements of the story that could be much improved with greater editorial attention: copy editing, the interior lives of the characters(particularly the female characters), and the sex scenes were not quite up to par with the rest of the book.
More troubling was that the characters are humorless even though there are many situations -including when two unmarried protagonists travel as husband and wife, that could have been more vibrant and memorable if the humor of their predicaments were more apparent. This could have made the characters more likable, believeable, and brought them to life a bit more. A bit of laughter might have made the sex scenes more fun too . . . just sayin'!Read more ›
The book was packed with suspense and I could visualize each scene in the story. It was full of twists and turns leading to a very surprising and soulful ending.
I look forward to more books from this author. I would highly recommend it.

I've read better match box covers in the toilet. Correction, the outhouse. You will have a better time reading about Elvis on a spaceship recording new music.Published on November 15, 2012 by The truth . . .
