Product description
To say that Springsteen's live shows with the E Street Band were legendary is the height of understatement. On a good night, the set might extend to three and four hours of exhilarating, pulse-pounding rock & roll. How best to capture that on CD? Or was it possible at all? As it turns out, Live 1975-1985 comes as close to the experience as possible. Culling material from various tours and settings ranging from small rooms to stadiums, the three-CD set emphatically displays Springsteen's charisma as a bandleader and storyteller and makes plain the sheer power of the E Street Band. Some of the many highlights here include covers of Edwin Starr's "War," Tom Waits's "Jersey Girl," and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" and rare versions of originals such as "Because the Night," "Fire," and "Seeds." And relax--all the hits are here as well. If you never saw Springsteen and the E Streeters back then, you might still get your chance. But this set chronicles a special time in the life of a special performer. --Daniel Durchholz

My interest in Bruce begins around Asbury Park and ends around Tunnel so this meets my needs. So far, disc 2 is receiving less play than the others, but ot is all very good.
For those who are somewhat unfamiliar with Springsteen, this is not "the one album" to buy- the more familiar recording are on studio albums. You should buy Born to Run.
How would I describe it? Life changing. Yes, my uncle was right. Springsteen speaks to audience. His music is not some attempt to boast about himself or a sheepish love song where the writer is trying too hard. His music is gritty and genuine. It is very Johnny Cash. It reminds us of our triumphs and pushes us past our failures, it tells us to sprint toward the future while carrying the memory of the past, it is a promise, it is a dialogue between friends, it is a breeze on a summer's day. The music is great and the lyrics better. It feels new and refreshing though decades old. I envy my uncle for growing up in an era that could have easily been defined by this man's music for I fear that there are none to replace the Boss. But that is why we buy Springsteen and Cash albums, because Swift and Snoop Dog do not reach out to Americans the way the prior did.
Note: It's important to get the remastered version of this set as the quality of the original printing was not that good.
