Top Customer Reviews

By Mark McQueen on February 7, 2009
Format: Blu-ray
The band starts off a little slow and the camera views jump around a bit too much during the the opening song, "Got Me Under pressure." Consider it a warm up as they soon find groove and it just keeps getting better. Most the ZZ Top classics are covered, and there's a lot of improvisation to keep it interesting.

Billy plays his custom Billy Bo Gretsch through most of songs, then his tech brings out a Les Paul Standard Gold Top w/ three control knobs and some custom pinstriping. On my 61" HDTV, the Blu Ray disc reveals some heavy finish checking on the gold top. You can see all the interesting details of the guitar. He uses the LP to play slide on one of my favorites: "Just got paid," and by this time the band is in full groove. For my money, that gold top sounded better than any guitar he plays on the Disc. Billy abslolutely rips as usual, and Frank and Dusty are a rock sold backline. They bring out the fur Explorers and Billy plays a three song encore on a custom Tele style axe.

This Blu Ray shows ZZ Top doing what they do best. I've seen them live a few times and this Blu Ray can't replace a live show, but the color, sound and clarity of the Blu Ray reveal details you might miss from the front row. It's nice to have ZZ Top on tap whenever I feel the need fro some rippin' Texas blues. This one's a top ten in my Video Music library.
