Tom studied in the Vatican for 4 years and is also a member of the APA. A therapist for 35 years he describes his own "awakening" and probably the reason I'm so attracted to his book is that his process mirrors my own.
We are born perfect, develop a personality detached from our perfection to mask our wounds, (similar to subpersonalities in psychosynthesis) and then for some of us we are fortunate enough (usually through pain and suffering) to be mentored on a healing path that reconnects us with our unique perfection to live a life of peace, joy, service, etc.
I found Tom an excellent teacher/therapist to describe this process.
