From the manufacturer

A lifelong civil servant in London has an epiphany after receiving a dire medical diagnosis.

Living

In a career-defining performance, Bill Nighy (Love Actually) plays Williams, a 1950's London civil servant who struggles to maintain order under mountains of paperwork. Overwhelmed at work and lonely at home, his life takes a heartbreaking turn when a medical diagnosis tells him time is short. Influenced by a local decadent (Tom Burke) and the vibrant Margaret (Aimee Lou Wood), Williams continues to search for meaning until a simple revelation gives him the purpose to create a legacy for the next generation. Adapted by Nobel Laureate Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day) and based on the classic Akira Kurosawa film Ikiru, Living is “ one of the best pictures of the year”. (David Fear, Rolling Stone)

•The film is directed by Oliver Hermanus and written by Noble Prize winningauthor Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains of the Day).

•Stars Billy Nighy (Love Actually)

•Producers Stephen Woolley & Liz Karlsen (Mothering Sunday), Daniel Battsek, and Rocket Science

Buried under paperwork at the office, lonely at home, his life has long felt empty and meaningless. An excellent movie that criticizes man AND then offers inspiration and an beautiful model for man to aspire to should he seek to live a meaningful life.

Great acting and a lovely choice of personalities to portray a typical life of civil service riddled with lackluster boredom, tedium and senseless repetition.

One man wakes up and discovers what it means to live a life that has meaning and rich rewards that cannot be deposited in a worldly bank.

Self-respect, self-esteem and selflessness blend beautifully to create character and dignity as this man takes up the challenge to provide some goodness to his community.

This movie never gets boring. It will shine in my memory and will enjoy an honored player amongst my collection of classics.

Based on the original Japanese version - Ikiru - don't miss this one either. It doesn't get any better than this. See them both back to back. You won't regret it.

Like so many of us, this man wants to leave something behind him that will last after he dies. And it takes the whole movie to get that message. be patient while the story works its way out.

Living very much tells a story of a person’s everyday life experience! Bill Nighy is one of my favorite actors. This is perhaps his best performance. Watching this film helps me to reflect on the importance of finding time for myself to enjoy life. Knowing how to have fun is essential for being able to have fun. This film shows this clearly!

Well done. Goes straight to the heart of every human's dilemma at some point in their lives. It doesn't matter what you can't do as long as you do what you can.

Now we know why Bill Nighy was nominated for Academy Award. It was unfortunate that he did not win the highly enjoyable, exquisitely acted, beautifully written English drama. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates the subtitley of English humour. There should have been and Academy Award for Bill Night. Do yourself a favour and order.

"Living" Living your life and then knowing you only have so long to live. must be the devilish thing that you can think about life. this is a remake of Akira Kurosawa "Ikiru" for some reason I love Akira version more.
not because it's the original but because there was much more depth to that one.
this new one was cut short by about twenty five or thirty minutes. why I don't know. lost some of it's insight
into the mans despair of the hopelessness of him Living a longer life. but it was good don't get me wrong here. love Bill Nighy. the man act with a purpose for one being great.

Basically a cross between the movies Brazil and About Schmidt. Bill Nighy stars as a quintessential civil servant who has a crisis of identity when he learns he does not have long to live...and no idea how to enjoy his final days.
