Has your dog been 'tired', shown mobility problems, had a change of eating habits, shown loss of body functions, seemed distracted, or displayed other subtle signs of poor health? Perhaps your dog is diabetic, and has diminished capacity due to an unseen problem! If your pup is acting strangely and acting as if it isn't feeling well, please don't assume it is just a temporary phase! Don't lose your precious pet due to an unseen illness, when all your dog needs is your love and care!!
This book is for you if your dog has been recently diagnosed with diabetes, has unusual behavior, or if your dog is suspected to be diabetic!

My precious dog began to show serious 'symptoms' of old age on the Friday before Christmas, 2012. She became weak, and upon closer inspection, she showed signs of losing her bodily functions. I rushed her to the veterinarians' offices where they 'worked her into' their busy, harried holiday schedule. Tests were run, x-rays were taken, all on a Friday afternoon.

It was Friday, before Monday, which was Christmas Eve, and her tests results were given to me via phone call in the evening. "Your dog is diabetic, so please bring her in on Wednesday after she has fasted all night for further testing". What? I had to wait until Monday for more tests? Yes, ..... Fear gripped my guts as I feared all of the bad things this prognosis could bring. What was about to happen to my world? How could I possibly care for a diabetic dog? Christmas looked bleak and scary! How could I endure the 'wait'?

I immediately got on Amazon and found this book! I ordered it immediately late on Friday afternoon!! On Wednesday, the book arrived!! It was the morning my dog was taken into the veterinarians' office for more tests!

Having been recommended this book by a friend, I read it wondering how it could help me as my dogs don't suffer from diabetes.

Within the first few pages I realized this book is essential reading for all dog owners, diabetic or not.

Any dog can develop diabetes and the symptoms taken singly don't raise any alarms, but taken together point clearly to diabetes. Ms Newton Thomas does a very good job in clearly flagging the warning signs as well as giving detailed information on care for a diabetic dog.

Her writing is very clear and easy to read, in fact it is written from a very personal point of view as her own dog Willie suffered from diabetes.

Aside from the wisdom of knowing the symptoms beforehand, she writes an extremely helpful section of questions to ask a vet if your dog is diabetic. It will make all the difference to your dogs care and your peace of mind.

This is a book that I would highly recommend all dog owners read.

This book is a must-read for every dog owner! It's so important to know your dogs habits and routines, and to be aware of possible signs of illness. So often, secondary conditions like skin disease or cataracts are actually a sign of a much greater illness. As dog owners, we need to be able to recognize problems and take action early on before conditions get worse. The more you know and understand the signs to look for, the better prepared you are.

This book is written by someone who has obviously gone through the emotional ups and downs of having a dog with diabetes. It's a great guide for all dog owners, whether their dog has diabetes or not. After reading the chapter on injections, I realize that I have been doing it incorrectly. Very great tips there.

Excellent book!

One of my dogs was diagnosed with diabetes around 3 years ago and since then I have read numerous articles and books on the subject so I know how to help him as much as possible. I think I knew it all but this book gave me a few tips that I had no idea about. The book is pretty well written and provides a good amount of info.

I bought this book for my sister, who was really upset when her Corgi was diagnosed with Diabetes. It's a great read, and it really helped ease her worries about her dog and what it all meant. I know since reading this book her dog is doing much better, gets walks daily and is now on a very healthy Natural Balance dog food with prebiotics. We would both recommend this book to anyone with a diabetic dog.

This is a great book, well written and informative about dog diabetes. It's written in an easy to read style - not dry and boring like some of these books can be. The most important part though is where the author talks about the warning signs of diabetes - these are all things that you could easily brush off or ignore in your pet. The book provides a great perspective of what it is like to have a diabetic dog and what you must do if you think your dog is diabetic.

A friend recommended this book to me and I'm so happy they did. The author knows her subject very well and describes how undiagnosed diabetes affected her dog Willie and how the disease changed their lives. I wished I had discovered this book sooner and been able to recognize the syptoms of diabetes in my own dog, especially the section on peripheral neuropathy. I highly recommend this book for anyone with an older dog or a dog already diagnoses with diabetes.
