About the author

Susan Mallery is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of books about the relationships that define women's lives—romance, friendship, family. With compassion and humor, Susan keenly observes how people think and feel, in stories that take readers on an emotional journey. Sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, and always uplifting, Susan's books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list, thanks to her ever growing legions of fans.
Critics, too, have heaped praise on "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!"
Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.
Susan lives in Seattle with her husband, a ragdoll cat, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Animals play a big role in her books, as well, as she believes they're an integral component to a happy life. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

Tanner is not sure what to believe, but takes her to a safe house. When he advises Christopher that the ransom drop was recovered and given back to Madison's father, Christopher is enraged, and soon visited by a Russian mobster giving him one week to come up with the $15 million for a weapon that Christopher plans to pass of as his own.
While Tanner does not believe that the pampered heiress is on the up and up, as he gets to know her, he starts to develop feelings for her, and is surprised when they are returned. But Christopher will stop at nothing to bring Madison out of hiding so that he will have enough cash to appease his creditors, including her own father's health. As he plays on her fears for her father, doubts about Tanner come to light and take her on a collision course with danger.
Despite knowing who the bad guy is early on, author Mallery manages to maintain the reader's attention and keep her glued for the outcome.
GREAT READ! Well written, intense storyline, strong, complex characters, feisty dialogue, sensitive romance, great supporting cast, and while there is never any doubt about who the bad guy(s) are, the deceit, danger and suspense make for a page-turning read. HOWEVER, there are a few inconsistencies and plot holes, but this re-telling of a woman-afraid of her ruthless ex is so well written it does not detract from the storyline.
THE STORY follows the owner of a black-ops-style security firm, taciturn loner Tanner Keane, and wealthy socialite, Madison Hilliard. As the story opens, Tanner and his team are hired by Madison’s “loving” husband, Christopher, to rescue her from kidnappers. However, once rescued, Madison refuses to be returned. She tries to convince Tanner that not only did she divorced her abusive husband two years earlier, but that her ex is behind the kidnapping and random demand, and intends to kill her if Tanner forces her to go back. Unconvinced, but wary, he moves her to a safe house to investigate her claims.
In spite of his initial dislike of her, working together to uncover her ex’s illegal activities, Tanner discovers there are unexpected depths to Madison and despite his initial resistance, they develop feelings for each other. Eventually they expose Christopher’s dirty dealings and with the danger past, they face separation as they resume their former lives, unless Madison can convince him they belong together.
OVERALL, the characters are smart, resourceful, and the sizzling romance works well.
You may also enjoy the complex characters and storytelling of N. Bruhns, A. Stuart, C. Ryan, or E. Palfrey. For good mystery/ detective writers you might try J. D. Robb, D. Stabenow, S. Grafton, Gayle Wilson, Julie Miller or Sharon Sala.
