What I think makes this book stand out from the crowd of people claiming to have experienced supernatural phenomena, is that it is well told. Wading through boring and technical prose to read about someone else’s account is a total snooze fest even though the information itself is interesting. Jerri makes her story interesting and fun to read rather than the typical, “I was in my kitchen. I felt weird. Then there was a ghost.” She uses good principles of storytelling to build tension and suspense. For believers, and skeptics alike, this is a fantastic read.
Each chapter of the book has a different story (they aren't linked in plotline) that retells an actual event in the author's life. The way she writes it though makes it sound all like a dream, like a made up story, with that majestic kind of air to it. It's very hard to explain, but I like that it isn't written like a documentary, or a news article or something. I think it only further shows that the author wants to impress upon the reader the reality of her situations. It worked completely, big thumbs up for keeping me up all night!
The author and main character, Jerri, is the type that really sticks with you. You share the experiences just as she does. Getting in tune with her inner thoughts was the best feature of the Living in a Ghost Story. Jerri Cote was really effective at keeping you at her pace. By the time you get to the present time you've grown together.
It's a very engaging experience. I'm glad to be able to read about instead of it having to happen to me! Take my advice and read Living Ghost Story.
