In the past, I have primarily connected God's Grace with the story of the cross and the suffering and death of Jesus to provide eternal life for believers. But, in their book, "Living the Great Commission", the Llambes explain that God's Grace is not just about what He has already done ... God's Grace is on-going and active TODAY, especially through the power of His Holy Spirit working in us! In church planting, Carlos and Liliana and their children have experienced this in their own lives. So, I want to thank them for this book that expands one's definition and understanding of God's Grace to now include Him being there to love and empower us to be brave enough to pass on His Grace to our neighbors - even if it means we must leave our comfort zones. I encourage you to read "Living the Great Commission". I promise its' message will strengthen you to obey His call in your own life!
I have personally had the joy of working with Carlos Llambes and his family in the church planting ministry God has called them to in the D.R. This book expresses what I have seen to be true as we go on mission with God. God's grace is enough to save us, sustain us, and also to fulfill the Great Commission according to Matthew 28:18-20. What God has called us to do, He enables us to do by His grace. Carlos in this book challenges us to live out what we believe about our God. His grace is truly amazing and sufficient for whatever we may face as we engage a lost and dying world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. I strongly recommend this book!

Some people know what is right. Some people do what is right. Carlos Llambes is obviously one of those who both knows, and does. When you read this wonderful book, you will see it, so don't pass up the opportunity.

These Llambes family missionaries do a great job discussing how grace not only saves us eternally, but empowers us during this life for work to advance the kingdom. If you are like me and sometimes get the mistaken notion that my ministry depends on me, this book is a great reminder that it is by grace we are saved and it is by grace we serve at the Father's pleasure. All results depend on the Father.
This is not a theoretical lecture from a blackboard professor. It isn't about permission, approval, money, or education. We already have everything needed to plant churches. Let's get to work...
Carlos and Liliana Llambes are missionaries to the Dominican Republic who have, in cooperation with the Dominican Baptist Convention, planted over 80 churches. I expected this book to be the story of how they lived out the Great Commission. To the extent their own experiences supported the larger theme of the book, this was true. Carlos and Liliana do share their testimony of salvation through Jesus Christ, however, they have a much bigger--and even more powerful--message to proclaim than their own story.
If you are looking for the next "gimmick" in witnessing for Christ, "Living the Great Commission" isn't it. Rather, this back-to-basics book avoids many of the "in the weeds" details (and overused jargon) of personal and conversational evangelism, missions, and church planting, and focuses on the one thing that empowers believers to live a Great Commission lifestyle---God's overwhelming, all-powerful, and all-sufficient grace. What is God's grace, how do we apply it in our lives, and how do we share that meaning with others?
I particularly appreciated the relatively short chapter lengths and the end-of-chapter questions for contemplation and reflection, which--along with the book's powerful but eminently readable message--makes "Living the Great Commission" a great book for personal devotions and the perfect subject for your next small group study. This book will both challenge you and encourage you to live a life of incarnational evangelism. Read it and pass it along! I will be buying several for friends and small group participants (when Amazon gets more copies).
The Llambeses wrote "Living the Great Commission," in order for its readers to realize that God's grace not only save us, but also provides all that is necessary to obey the Great Commission. Though written primarily for a missionary audience, this book applies equally as well to anyone in Christian ministry, and to the person in the pew wanting to be used by God. The foundation for the book is first and foremost the Word of God, but also puts the reader in contact with the thoughts of some of the heroes of the faith, such as Martin Luther and Charles Spurgeon. From these sources, the reader is continually reminded of the power and sufficiency of God's grace to accomplish all that God wills us to accomplish for His glory. At a time when missionaries rely so heavily on the latest fads and missionary methods, the call to trust the crucified and risen Christ to bathe the lost with saving grace, and the saved with grace and power for ministry, is refreshing. Another great lesson of the book is that missionaries have all they need to plant a church as long as they have Jesus in their heart and a Bible in their hand.
As a missionary, I can honestly say that this book is a phenomenal look at what it means to live by faith in fulfilling the Great Commission. We know God's grace is "more than sufficient" to save us... and we need to live knowing that His grace is "more than sufficient" to enable us to live out His mandate - making disciples.
This would be a tremendous self study (reflection question at the end of each chapter are great) and would make a great study for a Sunday School class or small group study. I know of one pastor who used the teachings within as the theme of a missions trip to Romania this past year!
