Wow! Chris Malkey gives a Powerful Performance!

A very powerful film about a small family who's sister is brutalized by her black-out alcoholic husband who beats the pulp outta her every now and then but then completely blocks it from his memory (either that or the ETOH does). Bruised and battered little sister retreats to her mother's home, where her brother also lives, to escape after the brutal attack. The mother is furious not only with her son-in-law who committed the beating, but also her son for not taking action against "Teddy", the wife-beater, when he shows up at their home looking for the wife. The mom belittles her son for his lack of manliness in not "taking care of" the son-in-law; she's angry about his passivity. He decides he'll pursue finding someone to make a hit on the woman-beater-brother-in-law-alcoholic (who, bye the way, showed so much promise of changing...almost for as long as it took for some of her facial wounds to heal). Well, Gordon, the brother of the beaten young wife decides he might like to actually consider finding someone to fulfill a "hit" on the violent drunk brother-in-law, Teddy, alright. Violent and graphic, but very powerful and terrifying portrayal of a murderous sociopath by Chris Malkey! What an excellent actor! Overall, the acting was very good...very convincing, but Malkey was exceptional! The timeline of the story was straight forward; no jumping from the ending, to the middle and back again to the beginning like so many films do these days! Interesting thought provoking story of so many things that could go wrong when you decide, or just want to consider, hiring a murderer to do some dirty work for you!

Interesting and different; the best combination of movie traits.

The movie may seem a little slow getting started but it is necessary to develop the characters and plot. Without giving away the twists of the plot, it is enough to say that it can be looked at from a couple of different perspectives. It could be what happens when well-meaning family butt into their adult offspring's business or it can be seen as an immature young man ruining his own, and his mother's life due to his lack of considering the full ramifications of his actions.

Decent flick!

This was a slow moving but compelling story about domestic violence and how it can spiral out of control with not one person thinking about long term consequences because they just can't get out of their own tunnel vision emotions.

The only part that didn't seem quite real to me was in the diner when the brother truly started to understand he was in over his head. Anyone who couldn't control himself even fractionally better than that man did would have long ago been at best a lifer in prison or dead. A little more 'controlled' rage might have been more effective, although the suddenness of that moment sure got my attention.

Regardless, after that scene there was no turning back. Realization set in but it was too late. You knew you were watching a train wreck in progress, but you knew that when you started. It is always a train wreck, you're only waiting for the details.

Nice job.

All of us movie junkies love indie flicks. Here is a new, 2015 thriller, on prime. You aren't exactly on the edge of your seat, but you have scooted up, and are leaning forward.

Better than most non-prime, big production movies, we pay for. Plus, the husband looks and acts just like Bradley Cooper. He doesn't have those blue eyes, but he has everything else.

PS no blood, guts, or sex.
